Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

99% of everyone wouldn't even notice that it is underpowered. The only reason I did is that I bought it specifically to bump my power up a bit from the 4hp I had. It going from 6.1 knots or so down...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

:) no you shouldn't be unhappy.. Like I have said before if the engine performs adequately for you and you don't need the full rated power then it's a great little engine. Runs all day long, sips...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Though I liked having the little alternator or maybe better call it a magneto. It only puts out about 1.5 amps current at most rpms that you would use for any length of time. It only puts out the 4...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

the alternator is a standard option on the 6hp long shaft I thought... There is no recall that I am aware of..They are good little engines if you don't want or need the full 6hp at the prop. The long...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

I understand where your coming from about the pitch and prop matching the usage. I understood it before I ever bought the engine. My point is that this is a small engine that tohatsu makes the full...

Just wow... were you in a bad mood and just decided I needed to be a recipient of it? I have to say it is either a credit to my topic that you felt you needed to join sailnet just to respond to this...

Re: Sending GX2150 AIS NMEA data to chart plotter over Bluetooth

It might be the version on the netbook also. It is more than a year old.

Re: Sending GX2150 AIS NMEA data to chart plotter over Bluetooth

Thanks for the quick reply. On my netbook It does run really slow because of all the maps that are loaded. sometimes 30 or 40 seconds to go from map to map. My main computer is a lot faster though...

Re: Sending GX2150 AIS NMEA data to chart plotter over Bluetooth

what did you do to get opencpn to to load charts faster?

I created a separate chart directory that has vector and raster directorys in it and then I pointed opencpn to the top level chart...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Glad I could help.

:) we are living on our Downeaster 38 now and loving the living daylights out of it. Though I have to admit the maintenance on a 38 ft boat sucks compared to the maintenance on...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Manual for my engine stated that the alternator wasn't for charging batteries but simply running running lights or instruments on a small boat/dingy etc..

I remember on a 100 mile motor I did with...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

forgot to mention that we now have a 20,000 lb 38 ft sailboat with a 32 hp diesel inboard and get close to the same fuel econnomy and just a bit better speed. Just kills me the difference. Would love...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

These things just sip fuel. We did our honeymoon on our boat and sadly ended up motoring there and back on the ICW.. about 100 miles each way by road. A little more on the water. I used about 11...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

I would be interested in what you get. Lot of people on this thread have argued about my results but none of them that I'm aware of actually put a tach on the motor like I did to check my findings.

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

I have to say that I am unaware of a 4 blade prop for this motor. To my knowledge there is a 6,7,8, and 9 pitch props and then a special high thrust prop that is sold as 5.99 pitch. As to which one...

Re: Nissan / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

It works ok on my boat but my old 20 inch johnson 4hp 2 stroke produced about 20% more thrust on the top end (as measured in thrust tests and on boat performance) I lost almost an entire knot of...

Re: Nism san / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Tohatsu is the one that has claimed that their motors are rated by the government not me. My claim is that their motors don't perform to the specs that they publish. They publish that these motors...

Re: Nism san / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

Becasue I have used from a 9 pitch all the way down the the lowest pitched prop sold by tohatsu who builds the motor. There are no other props to try that they sell.
It was unable to reach rpm on my...

Re: Nism san / Tohatsu 6h 4 stroke

I don't care who supposedly rated it. They don't meet the factory specifications that are listed for them. If the engine makes rated HP at 6000 rpm and can only turn at 4200 rpm then it isn't making...

In flat water with a 4hp johnson 2 stroke we could consistently do 6 to 6.1 knots in my F235.. When we put the 6hp tohatsu on it dropped to 5.3 or so with the stock prop. With the high thrust prop it...
