Re: Ever had a MEDICAL EMERGENCY while at SEA?

Well a few miles off shore is hardly "at sea." Certainly more dangerous when coastal than if you were really off shore, where you would just lay down for an hour or so. I had migraines including...

Re: Husband fell in love with an 1978 Ericson Mark II 35.5

Well the flash points are so different that they are not in the same ballpark. Flashpoint of gasoline is -45 degrees Fahrenheit, so anytime it is above that it is giving off flammable fumes....

Re: "Closed" threads

Normally threads are left open, but will be closed by moderators if the discussion gets way off track or personal. Not many are closed, but normally only if it gets ugly. I think there were some that...

Re: Air Head Composting Toilet or Similar Mfg.

I can't get over that a guy who's last name is Trot is in the toilet business. I am sure he got teased a lot as having the trots. Perhaps it is like the inventor of the toilet being Mr Crapper. (not...

Re: New (to us) Dufour owners

I was going to recommend sailboatdata, but they don't have line drawings.

Re: Curse my impulsivity, I'm buying a boat! Taipan 28

Yes, if you need insurance, your likely going to need a survey anyway. To me the biggest thing with a surveyor is they are not already in love with the boat and can be honest. I was looking at a 90's...

Re: Husband fell in love with an 1978 Ericson Mark II 35.5

If you are also looking at the tartan at Bruce Hill, they are both very nice looking boats. I have emailed them a few times and seemed pretty honest about condtion of a few boats I was kind of...

Re: Re-build cost if you have just the hull

It really depends, if you are one who likes to work on project then it might happen. Some people seem to be tinkerers while others like to sail. I know of people who will compleat a project sail it...

Re: If you live in Hawaii.....GET YOUR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER ASAP!!

Yes, likely anything that can catch wind will be gone otherwise. We had a lot fo furled sails get ripped and winds by me were less than that. Around here the wind was not bad at all, but it was the...

Re: If you live in Hawaii.....GET YOUR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER ASAP!!

My brother was going to come to the mainland (lives on Maui) but does not want to leave his house. He is high enough that he is not worried about storm surge. I know that a lot of the marinas there...

Re: So where the heck do you shower???

Well, at 6'7" he is going to find any head tight. Some boats over 35 have a shower stall, though they are so small that people often use them for storage rather than showering. Normally there is a...

Re: Sailing Dog's Boat Destroyed By Fire

I don't think so and the last time I looked at his blog it seemed to be dormant. Last posts seems to be about some girl he was obsessed with in August/October 2013.

Re: VSC saved me from CG boarding

I was recently reading about a local guy who was restoring a small submarine. Kind of silly little thing but looked like it could be kind of fun, and of course it was painted yellow. But around here...

Re: Liveaboard woman alone

For me I don't see it being much different for a woman verses a man. Keep in mind there are multiple ways of living aboard. You can be truly minimalist and live in a 27 foot boat (smallest boat I see...

Re: Creepy sailing stories?

I got stalked by a cougar once. She was 67 and I was 26! Now that is creepy! She was even a part of the year live-aboard, on a 75 foot boat. If I had gone for it, since she has since passed and I...

Re: Is the Newport 27' a suitable liveaboard for a small family?

More than length look at displacement and for live aboard the layout.
More modern boats will have more space inside but generally less storage. With a child for full time live aboard I think 27...

Re: $3500 inexpensive bluewater cruiser

Well the price is now 9,400. Perhaps it was a bit of a typo? I know my friend's father sold the Catalina 30 I learned how to sail keel boats on last summer for $2,400 had a bit of moisture in the...
