Re: Best boat for 25 grand for coastal cruising and going from east coast to Caribbea

Aloha 32, Endeavor 32, Catalina 30. its a great time to cherry pick and with 25k you can get started. Like someone earlier mentioned you might want to have 25% of that 25K for surprises.

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Here is my Garmin mounted to the Edson pedestal. I already had the box holding all the instruments except the GPS and we were trying to decide how to mount. My buddy was holding it in place when I...

Re: Advice for buying this Catalina 30

I bought a 1989 Catalina 30. The broker I bought it from in Rochester, NY gave me some good advice as it was my first investment in a BIG boat. Buy the nicest one you can afford, it will save you...

Re: West Marine pulling out of Canada

When I worked in Pickering (2002-2004,ex-pat) I bought and ordered stuff from a guy that had a little shop in a strip mall there. Nice guy and fair prices. That was in 2004. Not sure if he is...

Re: Can We Bareboat Charter in BVI's?

I went with Moorings and a 33' monohull for our first charter last year. I picked them to get a furling mainsail since we were a little (lot) unsure about what to expect. I had ocean sailing and we...

re: US, Cuba seek to normalize relations - Sailing Related

I for one, am damn excited that anything has occurred. My friends that have been there speak highly of the Cubans and their relations with US visitors, unlike some of the islands in the Caribbean. I...

Re: Missing Channel Markers in Cape Fear?

The channel has been shoaled so badly for the last 2-3 years that I could not get through safely with 4' draft. I'm with you it saved a nice bit when headed to Wilmington. There was minimal boat...

Re: What do you pay for Slip Fees??

Paid $3k for a 30' slip in Oriental, NC (Pecan Grove). Slip fees seem to be lower there now. More empty slips than I remember over the last 10 years. Now I pay $4800 at Wrightsville Beach, NC and...

Re: How far out? - Cellular Range from shore.

Recently we sailed from Wilmington, NC to Morehead City, NC. No or poor service along the middle of the trip. Verizon service, no booster, iphone. I wonder what you get from the boosters?

Re: When were you ready to single hand?

I can relate. Bought my 30 Catalina and she sat in the marina for 3 weeks all alone except for my daily visits. Easy winds and a bucket of courage and we were out sailing with the jib alone. Then...

Re: Newbiw Member -> Present sailor -> Future liveaboard -> Compac 27/2?

Lots of knowledge on the CP-27 on the forum. I have owned mine for 4 years and had very little issues with build quality. Not the fastest in the fleet but a nice boat to get your feet wet.

I have the Garmin 740 and have enjoyed it. I mounted it 3 different ways before I discovered it fit perfectly between the Edson 9" pedestal frame. First was a ram mount on the pedestal, 2nd was the...

Re: L. Francis Herreshoff - boat designer... and guns

I would think the matching gun to the H28 would be a Winchester Model 12 pump gun. 12 gauge of course.
