Re: How to support mast for easy painting

I had this exact problem a few years ago when I repainted our spars. I removed the sail track so there was no way to use that to suspend. Fortunately this mast had tball fittings for the tops of...

Re: BVI charter cost is cheep!!! for the Jenanneau 36I

For your first trip to the BVI's you would be better off sticking to moorings. Just about all the places you will want to go have them and most don't leave much room to anchor anyway. Also, most...

Re: Replacing Pedestal Guard on older Whitlock Pedestal

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

LOL. Good pickup Jon but if you look closely you will see that the knife block uses a clamp onto the SS pole. It gets put in a cabinet when sailing in less than ideal conditions.

Re: Recommended Instruments

Garmin sells a bundle for speed, depth and wind including transducers for about $1,000. You only get 1 display but you can easily add another display and stay under $1,500. It is not the latest...

Re: Considerations in Choosing a Marina

Aside from the obvious location specifics like how close to home, how close to shopping, how close to sailing, here is what I would consider.

- Pump out, fuel, restaurant/bar, showers,...

Re: Question. To live aboard or not? Am I in over my head?

Holly, my wife and I live aboard in Portland, Maine with our 70lb lab mix. He is very low energy. He loves to sleep all day and the boat is like a big den for him. Although we are very active...

I just purchased a Selden GX15. I have deployed and furled the sail in light air at the slip but not while sailing. I am leaving for a 2 week cruise today and plan to use the furler extensively. I...

Re: Mobile and Looking for a Great Sailing Community

I know a few folks who sail year round here in Maine. And if you can successfully sail the Maine coast you will be well trained. We do not sail year round but we do sail 7 months of the year.

Re: Cooling problems - Help please

The fresh water pump is a very simple device. It usually only fails one way and that is a seized bearing. If it is spinning and there is sufficient coolant level, then it is pumping.

This is...
