Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Amen. I quite agree.

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

:laugher
Sounds like good advice. But you either haven't been payin attention, or just don't get it. Don't feel bad or be angry - MANY don't. I believe you must have had some seriously life...

Talking Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

VERY well said, Joe, thank you. I paid in the maximum to SS for my entire life and even for a few employees at one time. I hope to live long enough to get much of it back. Everything else was...

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

This sounds like some of the best advice so far - maybe cause it's what I was already thinking... *grin*

I'm not sure I'd call it my 'dream', no stars in my eyes here, but you need a plan and...

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

Well, Thanks just loads for the heads up, but corrupt lawyers, insurance companies, and a particular nameless hospital are the reason my IRA and 401K and ex wife all went "poof". I'm thankful for...

Re: Boat owner not paying yard, and title of ownership issues

Do you see any go past that are NOT junk in your opinion? Is finding something that is mostly solid and merely ugly a popular fairy tale?

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

I don't have "an area", and don't intend to get one. I often get bored after a week in one spot, anyway. My "area" will be somewhere it doesn't get below 70 degrees. From now on - leaks, maybe. ...

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

This kinda sounds like my attitude/plan. Insurance has it's place, but is often for people who don't want to be responsible for themselves.

Re: 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

Well, actually I hope I do too. And I will try to keep my distance. Just wanting to find out what the demands/possibilities are. The minimum to get by on a practical basis is what I'm...

Arrow 10K$ boat --- Are Insurance and Survey REALLY mandatory?

I'm still shopping and waiting for the chance to move aboard and head south on a budget that is basically NO budget. Standard Noob totally unrealistic stuff. BUT - that's why I'm here - to learn...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I'd love to hear about the "work here and there to be quite easy" - positive stories about how it's done are always interesting and welcome

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

The list of "stuff" that I will want that you list has occurred to me. I will, of course, want most of those things (you left out the watermaker!!) :laugher But they will come, or not, as the...

Wink Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Sailpower - I'm Sorry. I can see that I didn't quite communicate. I wasn't offended nor trying to be offensive, nor imply that you or your comments were irrelevant.

What IS somewhat irrelevant...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

I have a 'painless' profitable gig in the oilfields in Texas. till June. Then a trip to where ever a good candidate is. Then onboard, provisioned, and headed south by Nov. (or sooner)

" 10-12k...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Thanks for the info. But I can see we are not quite using the same frame of reference. I intend to move aboard, immediately. I would never ship a boat cross country to get it to texas. Texas is...

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

I suppose there are people who want to live on a lake in N.C., but I'm not one of them. The whole idea is to head south in the winter. Fer gosh sakes - it's been known to git below FREEZING in N.C....

Re: Boat Purchase Timing ??

Well, actually, I was totally homeless and lived in a truck on the road for five years... (It's part of why I think a 30' boat can be comfy for me)

Besides - wherever it is, it will need to be...
