Re: Bristol 27 rudder damage

When you pull the boat out, remember that you will need a fair amount of room under the rudder, if you want to drop it down to remove. I haven't done mine, but, looks like you would need to chisel...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Cool. Very nautical. I want to do one of the rooms in our house to look exactly like the cabin of an old Herreshoff boat (it would need a galley and head too, b/c if I actually did this my wife...

Re: yes another help me find the perfect boat....

I updated the list. The inclusion criterion was only 30'-38'. Most of the boats on the list are not blue water boats.

Re: One Ship Stupid

I would tend to agree. However, everyone has a different continuum of what poor seamanship is. There are often trade-offs to doing things one way or another. Often the observer is not aware of the...

Thawing frozen engine

This cold snap has caught me with my Atomic 4 pants down. Couldn't get out to the boat to winterize b/f the water froze in muffler. Is there any safe way to heat the engine compartment while I am...

Re: Guidance with Laser2 Purchase -Please help!-

If you are by yourself, you will need to tend to both the main and jib. How relaxing or exciting the ride is will depend a lot on the weather. Be happy with what the day brings. Agree with Bob,...

Re: Mistral 16 pocket cruiser

The anchor hanging from the pulpit may also throw the balance of a little. When you anchor, you could just lower it from the cockpit.

Re: Safe paint removal?

I'm guessing it will be hard to get all of that off without damaging the gelcoat a little. You will need to patch those holes, too. It would be a bit difficult to match the gelcoat color...

Thanks Titus, I was not aware of that feature. In addition to your advice, I would add that if you want to find something on Sailnet you can limit your search to this web site like this:

Re: What percentage of boats are sold for competition vs sport?

I would imagine there are a large number of people who intend to race a little (local races usually held every week), and go cruising on the weekend. Oh, the exact percentage... 66.7%. Just...

re: Maiden Voyage Newbie Trainwreck

Take an experienced friend along next time. If that isn't possible, then go out on a dead calm morning, and practice motoring. Return to the slip a bunch of times. Enjoy your new ride, and...

Ron - I share your apprehension about sailing at night (my wife even more so).

I think what worries me is dealing with bad conditions at night. I would assume that those who enjoy sailing at...

Re: Thinking about a new project

Other than some sturctural killers, look out for stuff that will suck up your budget: replacing sails, motors, rigging (running and standing), personal gear (pfd, etc), operating expenses (launch...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I don't remember the site, however, I recall seeing a genoa off of Pyewacket (an 86' maxi sled) for sale for something like $1500. I would imagine that could be recut into a bunch of sails for a...

Re: Clean/Polish Painted Hull before Applying Graphics?

Should just be smooth, clean, and dry. I'm putting my boat name on tomorrow morning. I think the instructions said to spray with window cleaner and dry.

Re: Towing a Capri 16 with a Subaru outback?

Yah, but the 16 weight something like 4 times as much as the 16.5.

I wouldn't worry about trailer brakes... just ask your passengers to wear helmets. :)

Re: Towing a Capri 16 with a Subaru outback?

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

The cheapest way would be to not paint it at all. There is probably some left over from last season. Will probably get a good growth of whatever grows in your lake. Pressure wash and scrape it all...
