Re: What do you pay for Slip Fees??

We have a slip in Channel Islands Harbor (apx 40-50 miles from L.A. CAL.) We are in the cheep seats at just under $10/ft. I can't get out at anything lower than .5 minus tide, (LOL)so there is no...

Re: How not to make a tricky harbor approach...

So how would you take this inlet? Yes I read the wait offshore idea, however let's say you thought it wasn't too bad and you just went for it. Sure get all hands clipped in or down below. Would it...

Re: Google Earth?

I also use it to orient myself with an anchorage or harbor. It helps you get a visual feel for the place. Not that we don't use charts but it's another aid to help you out.

Re: Pic of 1 year old aluminum anode

When mine look like that I replace them. I use zinc anodes so not sure how much better/worse it would be but that looks like mine after 6 months or so. I have been told I am in a "hot" marina but I...

Re: Sailplan Poll

It might be an asymmertric sail instead of full blown spinnaker especially if it is a single handed cruse. Other than that a storm, main, and head sails would get it done without too much trouble....

Re: I'm Sick Of Bird Poo

The kido and I went to WM for that owl and they only had a hawk. So we went with it and it does work. We get cormorants, the great blue heron, (really beautiful bird) and gulls, it repeals them well....

Re: Yanmar 4JH4AE catastrophic breakdown experience

I had a cracked block and was able to have it welded. Not cheap but less than a full repower.

Re: stand alone harness or Inflatable with Harness

I have both but I only use the built in harness style PFD. I don't really know why I do other than if you go over and are being dragged you could unclip and still have the PFD on. Near shore this has...

Re: How much water is normal?

Our bilge is always wet, no big deal. However I would like it dry and will try a new packing material at next haul out. A few months back a member said he had great luck with a epoxy putty between...

Re: How do you rate your marina/mooring ?

Just a quick update, after reading all these posts I started feeling really hosed. So I started making a few calls to our marina and others and I have found a new slip(about 50 yards from my current...

Re: How do you rate your marina/mooring ?

We keep our boat in Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard CA. There is real wind here, like over 10kts. Our slip is $13.00 a foot. (ouch right?) The docks are old 1960's however the place is well kept,...

Re: Autopilot - wheel pilot vs below deck

We have similar boats (yes yours is way nicer) 11,000 dis. LOA about 36+ft. fin keel spaded rudder. I installed the Raymarine WP P-70/fluxgate compass and am very happy with it's performance. It was...

I only have bad news for you, sorry. Mine gave up after 8-9 years of regular use(weekender/coastal). In 2011 I took it to the Raymarine tec. for repair after months of internet searches with no...

Re: Recreational Sailboat vs. Tugboat with Barge: Who Has the Right of Way? - See mor

I was struck by a barge in tow, we were talking to the coast guard on the VHF at the time of the collision. Don't be so sure the tug is listing to the VHF/16. We had lost our steering and were...

Re: Has anyone actually had a ticket for having dinghy reg on a board?

We have not received a ticket for having our reg. numbers on a board on each side of our dinghy. The board is zip-tied to the rope lashings which run both sides of the dingy and have not been stopped...

Re: learning to drive a sail boat

You might look into sailing clubs, walk the docks and make friends. Hitch a ride with some racers(rail meat needed) who need some extra crew. It might take a few trips to the marina but your bound to...

Re: What's your cruising speed

Our boat motors at about 2000 rpm in flat seas doing 5.5-6 kts for a 36 footer with 3gm yanmar. I would think a 30 footer would do about 4.5-5 kts in flat seas.

Re: Catalina 36MKii prop shaft and rudder removal?
