Quoted because this deserves to be repeated.
Foam may not rot, but once you get water in there, you're going get delamination in short order and it will most likely be much more widespread than...

Re: Who pays for the food and beer?
Seriously. Running a competitive and successful racing boat is one of the most expensive and stupidest endeavors one can ever embark upon. After the huge boat payment, the constant sail purchases,...

Squelch blocks background noise. Turn it up until the static stops. You can turn it up a bit more if you're still getting garbled messages from other states.

But you still go out to dinner with people, though, right? Why would the drama on other boats cause you to not want to race?

Re: If I had to get one new sail, what would it be?
Yeah, then I'd definitely be looking at a big sail if I were you. That extra sail area can be the difference between moving and not moving on a light day and should easily make up for the days where...

Re: If I had to get one new sail, what would it be?
It probably depends on how frequently you get light air and on the condition of your jib. If the jib is workable, it'll probably be good for 15-20+. I don't think 5-15 would be a problem for a 150%,...

Re: CDI Furler Halyard is Getting Stuck
Silicone has no place on a boat, don't use it.
Sailkote is good stuff and almost certainly what the PO used.

Re: If I had to get one new sail, what would it be?
Sounds like a no-brainer. Depending on the boat, I'd consider an even bigger genoa, like a 150%

Re: Self Tailing Winches
I can get a pair of used two-speed, oversized primaries for $300-400. One self-tailer will be at least twice that, and it will probably be barely big enough. So it would be four times more expensive...

Re: Reefing question
The Peterson 34 I crew on has it so that a portion of the sail track is removable. You put all the slugs in and then screw the piece of track in so that it's sealed. A pretty ingenious system, if you...

I sometimes do this thing where I open the clutch, put half of a wrap on the winch to turn the line and take it with me to the mast. The winch gives me enough friction on the line that I can pay it...

My guess would be to differentiate the button from "Like" buttons that are hooked up to Facebook, as this one isn't.

IMO, go for the BS1088 stuff or...

Re: Performance Cruisers and Racer/Cruisers
Bene 367s have a very active class in lots of places, more so than most of the other Benes and similar. If I was looking for a cruiser/racer on Lake Michigan, I'd probably go with a 367 or a J-105, I...
