Hello, the fee is both fixed and arbitrary in that I fix it arbitrarily. As others have said, this isn't much at all, it just helps with maintenance. The deposit must be remitted after confirmation...

You can receive a GPS signal either from a usb receiver such as the BU-353, or from your boat's navigation system via NMEA. For playing around with I would suggest getting the free NOAA ENC charts...

There's a switch for increasing vector chart detail for a given level of zoom, you could try that, but you will have to accept that the NOAA surveys only go ever so far ;)
