Re: Am I an SOB?

I wouldn't worry about it. You helped the guy out. There were plenty of other people around who wanted to stay and help them out. I think you are being to hard on yourself

Re: First boat advice - Mpls to Great Lakes

Minnesail,
I wouldn't be to worried about the chop unless the wind is out of the northwest. That is when it gets bad in terms of wave height.

On Mille Lacs the biggest problem is wind...

Re: First boat advice - Mpls to Great Lakes

It is just the fishermen zipping along the lake in their twin 225hp powered craft that you have to watch for.

Re: First boat advice - Mpls to Great Lakes

If you are looking for a slip in MN you could do worse then Mille Lacs Lake.
My slip there just north of Isle rents for $600/season. For some reason people ignore it as a sailing lake which is too...

Re: Bill Healy wooden boat

DeniseO30,
Beautiful work.

Canoes are fun to build. They don't take long and are relatively inexpensive :D.

The only bad thing is they look so nice until you run a river full of rapids. Then...

Re: Embedded Chain plate maint/replacement

This is a little of the basic thread but,

I looked at your chisel and noted the serrated edge. If you don't mind me asking what is the serrated edge used for?

Re: winch location

On my boat I have 1" tracks both outboard by the toe rails and on the cabin top to help control the foresail by changing the angle of attack.

I think that you might also consider adding a little...

Re: Pocketcruisers in central U.S.,and beyond

I sail a 24 ft Paceship Westwind which for me is a perfect boat. It is small enough to trailer around, though I prefer leaving it in a slip. It to has a centerboard but with 2300 lbs of lead in its...

Re: Too much sanding? Not enough?

I agree with Tommays. Painting the boat is probably the most painful part of a three year refit. I had no idea it took so long to paint a boat.

I did end up using Interlux Brightside using the...

I sail Mille Lacs Lake in Minnesota. I live about two hours from it so when I go (every possible weekend) I look at the weather report to see what kind of wind I might experience.

The only thing I...

Sifu,
I understand your problem. I was in your position about 5 years ago when I bought my first boat (Paceship Westwind).
