Re: Adding an auxiliary electric motor might be fun...

Problem with chain drive is it's on all the time unless you've got a clutch on the shaft itself. Possible but I've never seen a suitable critter. One could make something up using the syncro slider...

Re: Adding an auxiliary electric motor might be fun...

You could drive the shaft with 3 B series V belts and an idler to tighten. The belts would be slipped on the shaft before coupling and rigged to not ride on the sheaves when slack. This is how we...

Re: Sudden inability to sail upwind

A bunch of weed sure can raise a lot of ruckus. Fortunately lake krakens are vegetarian and the problem may have cleared up.

Re: Tayana 37: Coamings cut off - is this repairable?

The aluminium fabrication sounds like a good solution.Solves leaks, winch mounting and storage. A teak cap could make it look like it belongs. I'd build one out of light plywood for test look.

Re: Malo 45' loses rudder, pulls an All is Lost

Loved it. Met Farley back when we both were looking for a jack boat in Newfie. His search was 'successful'. I bought a GTO in Detroit.

Re: Adding inline muffler to water lift system

Inline rubber mufflers work on my Kybota gen set. Maybe you could put a 90 rubber elbow(automotive stuff) on the transom .Paint it pink so it looks like it belongs'.

Re: Need Help - 12 volt tv or 110 volt tv?

I suspect that the tv's internal step down power supply is buffered enough to take care of a modified square wave inverter's indiscretions. I run everything thru a good quality surge bar anyway...

Re: Sudden inability to sail upwind

Try sailing in Alaska .Tidal current so big it pulls down a prawn buoy and you catch it in the rudder. Suddenly you change course and appear to be backing up at 5 knots .

Re: Stupid question? Sparks when I connect inverter

Don't care what anybody says.I still solder all my joints and then self vulcanizing tape. Yellow is the new black so I'm not completely old school.

Re: Need Help - 12 volt tv or 110 volt tv?

I like the concept of a smart tv. Blue tooth from other sources and good tv signal from air. I'm happy with my LG and it can talk to wireless portable speakers Never worried about lack of inverter...

Re: furler

If you bend it you fold it up on the fore deck until you can get it to the metal recyle yard. Hopefully the sail is still usable. Hanks have real advantages.

Re: injection timing yanmar 1gm10

Not much experience on that engine but know that is retarded. One standard shim equals one degree. Putting in shims will advance it. Makes the pump piston meet the cam follower sooner.
