Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Copa,

I covet your setup. I have to use a standard grease gun, standing on my head of course. It is interesting that the grease in your system exits forward of the compression ring (I am glad you...

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Copa cabana,

Sorry, but I have follow up questions. In the picture of your stuffing box I noticed what appears to be an accumulation of grease (it is tan or beige in color) next to the compression...

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Copacabana,

Thank you. You're the man. From looking at your pictures, it looks like the setup you have functions the same as the grease fitting I have on the male part (stern) of my stuffing box....

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Capt Len,

Nothing wrong with prehistoric methods. They have been proven over time. The stuffing box I have is attached to a Yanmar 1GM10 diesel that was rebuilt and has less than 50 hours on it....

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Gene,

I enjoy humor. No problem. I have read about stuffing boxes running cool and hot, but no one ever quantifies what hot is. My stuffing box currently gets warm (or hot) enough to where if I...

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

Copa,

Does your stuffing box have two fittings like mine? If not, which one do you have?

Re: Stuffing box & grease fittings

It looks new to me too. I just don't understand why anyone would install the grease fittings. Is it a good idea or a bad idea? I don't know.

Stuffing box & grease fittings

I have a question about the stuffing box on my boat. I have attached a picture to show the arrangement. The stuffing box has two grease fittings, one on the compression ring and one on the end of the...

Re: Pocketcruisers in central U.S.,and beyond

I would love to see some pictures. Hope you change your mind and sail her. Seems like a real downer moving from a wood boat you brought back to life to a cheap, plastic boat.

Re: Hello from, southeast Texas

Good luck and keep us posted on your venture. I am in Jasper, TX and maybe we will meet up some day. Is there a typo in your location? Should it be "Kemah" or is there really a "Kema" Texas?

Re: Closing seacocks

I also like the idea of hanging the engine key on the engine intake seacock. Plan on giving it a try.
