Re: Best spray on / spray off deck cleaner for sailboats

I have had a lot of luck using Spray 9. We use it at the marina where I work at to clean our rental boats. Out of all the products we have used it is the most effective.

Re: What is your favorite sailing Novel?

I am not sure if this is my favorite sailing novel but it is one that I am reading now. It is called "The Wreck of the Grosvenor." It is in the style of Melville, but is much easier to read. I...

Re: Com-Pac Sun Cat 17

When you mean turn away, do you mean the boat won't tack and you go back to the direction that you started from? Cat boats aren't known for their tacking abilities, or pointing abilities for that...

Re: Suggestions for a first boat

That is one awesome looking boat (picture). I have a feeling the photo has been touched up a bit to make it sell better. Not to say it is a bad boat or anything.

Re: Suggestions for a first boat

The Compac 23 is also a nice boat. A little more difficult to rig than their smaller boats but also more comfortable sail. They have been in production for a long time so they can be reasonably...

Re: Good Small Boat for Older, Fatter Woman to learn on

I have a Bauer 12. It is a great boat to learn on. It is kind of a hybrid between a cat boat and a sloop. Although I think most people like to think of it as a cat boat just because of its salty...

Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

Marco Island gets a bad rap for not liking people anchoring out. And it's true that the powers that be don't like it but there isn't much that they can do about it either. I work at a marina on...

Re: 26 foot catalina open water?

I agree with all the previous posts. You need to be able to wait on good weather. And figure out what your next closest safe harbor every time you leave your anchorage in the morning. That way if...

Re: Bauer 12 mast help

I will give another shot to rigging the boat on Monday and see what happens.

Does anyone know of an owners association for Bauers? I have searched the net and couldn't find anything. The Good...

Re: Bauer 12 mast help

So once I get the mast up I don't have to worry about the holes. I think they were slotted all the way down to begin with. The slot is just a lot bigger now.

Bauer 12 mast help

I purchased a new to me Bauer 12 yesterday. Today's post was supposed to be "hey look at my new boat." Unfortunately I am posting about how to repair what I tore up while trying to rig it. Or I...

Re: More newbie questions

2. I have a 20 foot boat with lifelines. They are pretty much pointless as far as I am concerned. The newer models of my boat don't have them for good reason.

5. Go out on a light air day. ...

Re: is it ok to look as long as you dont touch

I look at craigslist every day. But I am also actively in the market for a new boat. Once I buy one I don't plan on looking again. I don't want the buyers remorse of "if I only waited another 2...

Re: CL 16 questions

That's not bad. A lot of people talk about getting there boat launched in 15 minutes but I think might be exaggerating a little bit. Or don't consider some of the things they do as part of the...

Re: CL 16 questions

When you say time consuming to rig how long would it take an average person to rig it single handedly. Getting out on the water as fast as possible is a pretty big factor for me.

Right now I don't plan on racing. Although someday I might change over to a class race boat. I guess a race boat would be the opposite of what I would want. Or at least I don't want 20 different...

CL 16 questions

I am looking into buying a CL 16. I don't know much about this boat other than it is a fiberglass version of a Wayfarer. The boat is a 1982 model. Is there any specific problems I should look for...
