Re: Navionics chart plotter / GPS app for Droid phone, plus Chesapeake Smart Buoys

All 3 trips I've done from Florida to the Bahama have been on a Lagoon 440 (3 different boats). Unfortunately since it's a fly bridge boat, the charter operators tend to keep the plotter out of harms...

Re: Deck Grizzly grip non skid paint ..don't waste a nickel it's a fraud

I've used Interlux Perfection mixed 50/50 with flattening agent. Then lots of Intergrip mixed in. Then I sprayed it (not an option if you are in a crowded yard). The result is a surface with the...

Re: Vinyl Striping vs. Painting?

Don't sweat a few extra days. You obviously don't want to leave it on for months, but if you get a little adhesive residue you can use 3M adhesive remover. Cheap and easy.

Re: Vinyl Striping vs. Painting?

Good suggestion, but go to an auto paint store and buy your tape. It's about twice the price of Frog, but well worth it. By no means use blue "painters tape". It's only good if you're painting a...

Re: Sailing into the slip

Well, there are a limited number of charter companies in south Florida. Trust me, I've looked. And of the 2-3 charter companies in south Florida, I know of only one that lets you take the boats...

Re: Sailing into the slip

I think it's funny the number of people who would never under any circumstances attempt to dock under sail, for practice or otherwise.

Here's a question from the sailing resume for the charter...

Re: Let's see your pride & joy(boat)!

I do. It was pretty gusty that day, and I had more headsail than I really wanted. Plus, that headsail is blown out (that day was the last time I flew it) and it won't flatten out enough. Got a 3rd...

Re: WTH Chuckles? A freakin' mono????

Yes it is. Works very well in fact. Did it for about a half hour during my one week sailing school at Blue Water Sailing School on a 42 foot cat. We tore a jib car out of the track on a MOB drill, so...

Re: WTH Chuckles? A freakin' mono????

This is from my first trip in 09. On the way back we got caught in a squall. The main halyard was a 5/8 line with 2:1 purchase. The lesson learned (you can't expect them to tell you everything, and...

Re: Sealing around speaker: Butyl tape or caulk?

I just rebedded the speakers on my boat. If they are built the same way as my speakers, the covers can be removed with some effort. The mounting screws had to be removed first, then carefully pry the...

Re: WTH Chuckles? A freakin' mono????

Smack, If you want a real Catamaran experience, go to Florida and rent a 40 something cat or a Gemini and take it to Bimini. Great crossing, and great fun. Split the cost with 7 of your closest...

Re: Sailing into the slip

I'm sure I'll get razzed for this, but I think sailing in and out is a necessary skill. Even though I own an auto shop, my motor became unreliable and I didn't bother to fix it. I didn't run the...

Re: So Memorial weekend this happens......

Thanks guys. It just looked so awesome after I painted it the first time, there was no way I could let it go looking the way it did. So it only took me 2 1/2 days to get it this far. The other side...

Re: So Memorial weekend this happens......

I finally got the boat painted. I spent a huge amount of time stripping and repainting the deck. That's a real PITA, and I'm still not done putting hardware back on.

I had to rush the paint job...

Re: Keel shape and pointing

Finally got back out to the lake for a race this weekend. Only got one pic though. No time ahead of the race as the entire fleet was stuck in the harbor waiting for 40+ mph winds to pass. For the...

Re: Hull & Deck Painting

My deck hardware and teak got removed yesterday.

You could be in luck because you may be able to strip your 1 part paint with chemical stripper. Most auto parts stores can get you paint stripper...

Re: Hull & Deck Painting

A word of warning before using Perfection. I painted my boat (deck and topsides) with Perfection 5 years ago. I also failed to properly prep the surface. I now have some areas where the paint has...

Re: So Memorial weekend this happens......

No, mechanical repair. I've done body work, but you probably wouldn't want me to do it on your car. If I was a real body guy, I would be sailing already.

Fiberglass repair was learned out of...

Re: So Memorial weekend this happens......

I got the hole glassed shut.
I laid up a layer of glass mat on the outside, then screwed a piece of plywood over it.

Re: Keel shape and pointing

Thanks for the comments everyone. Unfortunately I won't be getting to the lake this weekend. Our new crew is unable to make it out for practice, and the wind is gusting to 30. Not a good day for...

Re: Keel shape and pointing

Tightened the leach line, but way too much twist. I can't make the twist go away, which is one of my reasons for not liking this sail.

Perhaps after I tune the rig according to the instructions...
