Re: Uncertainty and crew

Perhaps "defferred maintenance" was a poor description as I never expected the jib furling line to break after only 7 years but Bahamas sun.....
I thought I'd fixed the electrical prob by replacing...

Are municipal marinas moneymakers or losers?

The Municipal Marina in Riviera Beach Fl was the most expensive marina I have ever been in, over $800/month for my 28' boat. The docks were really nice and looked to be very strong in event of a...

In moving my 28' boat from Riviera Beach to Jacksonville via the ICW, my family was freaking out cuz I was going to do it alone. I've done a lot of single handed sailing and this is very protected...

Re: encapsulated keel?

Keel on my S2 is encapsulated and I've never worried about it even after hitting bottom hard numerous times. Once, I even hit a truck (submerged) when I was going 5 kts. I don't have to worry about...

Auto vs manual inflate lifejackets

I was discussing wearing inflatable life jackets with a friend in light of the incident on Mobile Bay and I told her I always wear my auto-inflate jacket in case I hit my head in going over. She...

Re: I need more horsepower

I agree with capbillc. I also have a perfectpitch and they tell you exactly what you need and even sell a shaft exten that allows you to carry a larger diameter.
If that fails, simply put an...

Re: Removing Diesel smell

Diesel smells like my younger days when I was a drill stem tester (glorified roughneck) on drilling rigs in Wyoming I'd be covered head to toe in diesel based drilling mud but I was young and...

Re: Removing Diesel smell

Diesel stench? WTF? I love the smell of diesel, it reminds me of my boat. I always thought diesel and cigar smoke made the ultimate masculine cologne. This might explain my luck with women.

Re: Cruising Gear

One item not listed that I find to be seriously useful is an autopilot, or in my case a tillerpilot (old Autohelm 750).
On my recent 10 day sail in the Bahamas, we had no refrig and we never even...

Re: How Old is Your Boat

A friend wanted to buy a new boat. I asked, "What kind"? and she replied "Something with traditional lines, they look more seaworthy". Another friend then said, "The ocean bottom is littered with...

Re: Epoxy in coldish weather?

For what you are doing, you are probably OK but I'd still warm up the areas to get maximum flow and filling of the glass cloth but I think it'd cure well with time.

Re: Epoxy in coldish weather?

I've had some trouble with epoxy bonding to wood when it was at the lower end of its temp range. I think it is because it doesn't flow into micro-crevices as well as when warmer. I think 40 degrees...
