While we're all talking about our Rafiki's, anyone have any experience with trimtab self steering on this? I've been emailing Lin and Larry Pardey and they've sent me some drawings and pictures to...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Hey Mike,
I know they also stenciled the numbers onto the inner hull, port side, typically in the cabinet of the head. Last two numbers are the hull number.

Just bought a new dacron sail and am looking for some info on what type of decals will stick well. I contacted fastsigns and they weren't sure whether a vinyl decal would stick to a sail....

Re: Created a sailnet forum goup for San Franciso Bay Area sailing

I like the idea of the group, but I agree--we don't do anything. I'm still in Alameda.

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Hey Rick,

When I bought the boat it had a setup where the sheet travels along the bottom of the boom to the mast, then down to a pulley and back to the the cockpit. It's a healthy length of rope,...

Re: Rafiki 37 owners out there?

Good to meet another owner. I'm in the SF Bay area and I know of three others here with Rafiki 37s. I'm possibly heading your way this Summer. We're planning, but things with work may interfere. It'd...

Re: Morro? Monterey? Pismo? Weekend on the hook.

You may try Avila Beach (Port San Luis Obispo). Pretty cool place to anchor, for a fee, or for free in between the beach pier and the oil pier (as in oil company). A little rolly, but not bad....

Re: Living in Florida

You may wish to look at the Tallahassee area. Lived there for many years and loved it. There is a deep water marina in Carrabelle (and closer at St. Marks, but not so deep), and so much to do if you...

Re: Hawaii to SF question

Not sure what to say. I've sailed a bunch of coasts, East and West, but never to Hawaii. I don't do it to feel safe. I want to take my boat to Hawaii and have some time to do it. Just trying to get...

Hawaii to SF question

I've got a good idea of what sailing to Hawaii from SF will be like, and how long it may take, but I'm not sure of the trip back. I'm in a 37 ft, 13 ton, full keel, 6ft draft, double-ender hoping to...

Re: SF to Hawaii - recommendations

Thanks for the replies. Just bought Cruising guide to Hawaiian Islands. Good advice--thanks. Never thought of the jets flying to Hawaii, but makes perfect sense. Ala Wai Marina looks like it could be...

I'm planning to sail to Hawaii from SF this summer and could use some recommendations on a good destination. It'll be the wife and myself, leaving first week of June (as that is the only window I...

Re: California dinghy registration madness

Being in California, It could be argued that it depends on the day, time, and place you arrive at the DMV. I registered a brand new, ebay-bought, 11' dingy, with an 1997 4
4hp nissan outboard at the...

re: no sailing experience ocean crossing

I bought a 69 Coronado 30 in after sailing only a few times on a lake in a cal 20. Took it from Marina Del Rey with my brother in law who'd never stepped foot in a sailboat and headed North for...

Re: Macwester 30 Wight MK1

Had a MacWester 28 that I restored and refitted. She handled weather better than some forty footers I've sailed on. Didn't go too weather that well, but so much room and so solid in a big sea....

I just finished sanding, tearing out old caulking, plugging, and such my "old teak" deck on the Rafiki 37 I bought in February. I recaulked, and bleached with oxalic acid when I was done, and I love...

Re: Fiberglass ..classic??

Great forum responses. For my two cents, I'd have to say that the word that stands out to me is 'refurbish'. If you're gonna refurbish and old boat, the old plastic is pretty tough, and more often...

Re: Truth on Teak Interior?

You can sand it, or wipe it with a bit of oxalic acid. It'll come back. The acid works easily and if scrub it on, then rinse it off it will bring out the color without bleaching. Leave it on and it...

Re: Anybody tried SeaClear II free nav software?

If it's not reading your gps, maybe go into the tools section, look at the 'comm' tab, and try manually checking the different ports. ONe of them should work.
