Re: Missing Sailor Rescued

"Found him on the hull" - as in, in the cockpit.

Re: Missing Sailor Rescued

There is no way an Alberg 35 can stay inverted for 66 seconds, let alone 66 days.

Re: fill in old screw holes on boom?

I used a "patch" of the aluminum foil duct tape to cover the holes on my aluminum boom. Blends in nicely and lasts forever (on fresh water at least).

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I keep hearing that it can't be done, yet, I have done it. Not only that but guess what? My nav lights are unmistakably green and red. None are blue.

Re: Thawing frozen engine

A GFCI will prevent you from being electrocuted, but will not protect from a fire due to high current, or most other problems related to electric heating or the malfunction thereof.

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I posted this a while back in another thread but I think it also belongs in this one:

I made a new tiller. First I laminated a bunch of 1/8" plywood (door skin) at the right swoop (shape). Here...

Tohatsu 4,5,6 HP Tiller Lock Fix

I have made a minor modification to fix the silly tiller lock issue that seems to plague most of the small Tohatsu 4 strokes. (Also Murcury and Nissan)

I created a blog post about it: Tohatsu 6...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I cut the four holes on the sides of the berths for easier access. There are hatches on top but these are a pain with the cushions and who knows what else on top (sometimes people). I used a 3"...

Re: From the "what were they (the designers) thinking" category.

Agreed. The seat issue was a flaw/oversight in the building of the mould (plug). The front hatch was probably a cost issue. Neither would be noticed until you brought the boat home and used the...

Re: From the "what were they (the designers) thinking" category.

Another of several design oversights. My boat has a funny L shaped hatch forward of the mast. Look at the hump designed to keep water out. It relies on the gasket on the hatch to keep the water...

From the "what were they (the designers) thinking" category.

The drains around the cockpit seats didn't. Why? because the "front" of the drain was actually higher than the back. It's an illusion, because the front was actually deeper than the back, but with...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I made these "combing pockets" to make use of the dead space inside the cockpit combings. I glued them in permanently. I did both port and starboard sides. Great place to keep cell phone, radio,...

Re: tiller / rudder to stiff? wy

I don't know much about those but maybe there is a grease nipple or some other way it can be lubricated?

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I am going on a week long cruise on the North Channel next week (if the ice is off by then). It's a 16 foot boat with no electrical. I built this little battery box to keep my phone charged. It...

Re: Keel: a.k.a Water Bucket

I might just patch over the hole with a few layers of epoxy and glass for this year. Go sailing. In the fall remove the patch and grind out as much as necessary. Next spring after it's had all...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

I added a DIY rub rail to my dinghy. 3/4" nylon double braid. Fastened with a #6 flat head SS screw every 4" after first pulling the line as tight as possible. The screws are driven through the...

Re: What's wrong with this pic?

The main sail is neither hoisted or flaked. It's just hanging down on the deck.

I use latest firefox. Just checked with IE and it's the same thing. I suggest you resize all the pictures to make them all the same.

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Cool blog but really annoying to read. Because the scrolling pictures on the top are all different sizes, the text keeps moving up and down as the pictures change. At least on my browser.

Re: Cheap sewing machine that takes a binding feeder?

Yes, you sent me a maintenance/setup manual for it at the time. The machine is a workhorse. Consistently stitches away without broken needles or thread.

I have found the pressure required to...

Re: Cheap sewing machine that takes a binding feeder?

Gary,

I have a Consew 230 and I love it. Sews anything and is very (too) fast but it has three shortcomings: no zigzag, no walking foot, and max 1/8" stitch. I have sewn sails to bimini's with...
