Very interesting how this all played out. Please keep us updated if things seem to go sour. I have not really had any experience with boat insurance and especially not claims. I would have been...

Basically calculate the weight times...

Re: Anyone in Marathon?

Great, thanks for the info. I'll need an actual dock as I don't have a dingy on my small boat. I'll take a look at the links you gave me.

Have you heard anything good or bad about the Sombrero...

Heading top to the area in about a month. Can you suggest a place to slip for the week that's reasonable and some places for a day sails? I'm towing my Chrysler 22 down.

Re: replacing holding tank and tubing

I would be nervous too, if it were just a few plugs pounded into some holes in the bottom of my boat that was keeping it afloat.

Re: Splicing Wire the NASA Way

This is very similar to the manner in which I will splice stranded wire. Of course I can't make it coil up against itself like with solid wire but it's pretty close. After soldering it gets shrink...

Re: Don't need no lessons..just go..

My pre-boat experience was pretty minimal as well. I'd done tons of reading and fortunately my mind is pretty mechanical so it all pretty much makes sense to me. My first boat I found was pretty...

Re: Your first boat

While student loans are to be used for education, it's certainly acceptable to use such loans to pay for room and board while at school. Sometimes it's in a dorm, sometimes in an off campus...

How did you get the money for your first sailboat?

Saved up and bought a Siren 17 for $900. It was in sailing condition save for needing a few lines and some trailer work. I put a little more money into it to make it nicer. I've recently traded it...

Re: How do you get your fix when the snow is flying

Even though it's 14 hours from me, I've climbed and camped on Mt Washington about 7 times.....in the winter as well. I'll be there next month as a matter of fact.

Also IIRC you aren't actually...

Re: Simple 15A Shore Power In Small Boat (Looking to install in-line 15A AC Breaker)

I'd be interested in hearing about the proper way to do this as well.

What are some sources for learning how to properly wire AC on a small boat?

Re: Free or low cost GPS navigation software?

Great thread and gave me lots of leads and ideas.

A friend recently gave me a jump drive with Open CPN on it and all the maps of the keys for me to play with. I hope to learn more about it soon.
