Sorry I missed you, Shawn. I got back to the marina just about the time the storm hit - pretty nasty winds and some hail. I had to work today, but next week I have 6 days off in a row, so I hope to...

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

Spent Friday night in Stillpond, Saturday night in Worten Creek, and sailed home with a great southwest breeze Sunday. Best weekend of sailing all year.

Re: Ever had a MEDICAL EMERGENCY while at SEA?

Back in the late 1960s, the University of Washington kick started it's PA program. The vast majority of the students were GIs and RNs. At the time, I was teaching Cardio Pulmonary Technology at...

Re: Ever had a MEDICAL EMERGENCY while at SEA?

To be perfectly honest, if you are single handed, and 1,500 miles offshore, it doesn't make a damned bit of difference - THERE'S NOTHING YOU CAN DO OTHER THAN HOPE FOR THE BEST!

Now, if you have a...

Re: Labor Day Weekend?

I may end up at Still Pond on Friday or Saturday evening myself. Just give a yell for Saturday's Child on 16 and I'll be glad to flip a Johnsonville Griller or two for ya.

Re: Need help, rolling furling get stuck after unwinding 5 feet of sail

I had the same problem, and in my case as well, the top swivel was binding. It was a lousy furling system, and I replaced it with an Alado roller furling system and never had a problem since. The...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Having sampled TVP a couple times, I'll stick with real meat and fish. There are lots of TVP products available in the local supermarkets now, most of which taste a lot like flavored sawdust to me....

Re: Boat Explodes

TQA, I've only seen, personally, 2 boats explode - both were diesel. One was just outside Ocean City, Maryland inlet, a charter fishing boat. The entire bottom blew out and it sunk within minutes....

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Shawn, here's the panel I purchased for my Morgan, made the mounting brackets from inexpensive Bimini fittings and attached it to the stern rail where it's completely out of the way and not shaded....

Good one! I perform this song regularly, but I'm fully dressed and usually not on the boat. (I don't look good almost naked anymore!) ;)

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

I've followed this thread since it began, and for the most part, the vast majority of the cruisers that have posted sincerely believe that the $500 figure is not realistic. And for the most part, I...

Re: Pictures os sharks! It's Shark Week!

I've caught lot of sharks while fishing near the mouth of Chesapeake Bay, which probably has more sharks during the summer months than any body of water along the east coast of the U.S.. Most are...

Re: How sailing certifications affect insurance

I've actually asked my insurance agents, both of them, and as far as the insurance company is concerned, the license has no bearing on the premium cost. It was the same regardless of whether or not I...

Re: 2014 Sailing Season

Size definitely matters when it comes to boat size. I've sailed comfortably on my 33 Morgan in conditions that I would not have taken my 27 Catalina away from the dock in. I've only traversed the...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Andrew, no need to apologize. Old guys like me go on a rampage every once in a while, mainly because we're old and crazy, which is not all that bad, though. ;)

After living aboard for 6 months, I...

Re: Voyaging on $500 per month

Re: Boat Ventilation

It really doesn't matter which way you move the air as long as it's moving.

I have a solar vent in the head - it really does not move very much air at all. At best, it's not much better than a...
