Re: How to get free internet on your boats.

Two points to consider: One, it's not necessarily "free" for everyone, as you still need to have a phone plan you're paying for. It's not additional charges over what you currently have, however, so...

Re: 1976 Gary Mull Ranger 26' dry weight

Agreed, going to at least need a double axle trailer for that weight, and I've seen pictures of both tandems, and triples being used for those. No way I'd trust a single though.

VOR to Newport, who's going!

Anyone else excited about taking a few days to hit Newport for the Volvo stopover? Taking two of the kids out, who are hooked on sailing with me, and are dying to see the size of the boats, as well...

Re: New O'Day 26' questions

Some portas give you a pump out option also, with a fitting on the holding tank that you can run a hose to the deck fitting. The one I picked up for mine last year has, but I never used it enough to...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

Tested the anchor light. Still nothing. Wtf. Must be somewhere in the actual deck connection, or possibly between there and the panel. All the wiring was new, but that doesn't mean something didn't...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Aside from the scrubbing that I need to do to clean up the cockpit.. my new "tiller". Post hole digger handle, for about $10 at Lowes. Cut it to length, shaved the end just slightly with a dremel,...

Re: VHF with AIS/GPS

I also have the 2200 myself, paired with their cpn700i chartplotter. There's a great video on youtube that shows how to interface the two, in regards to just paying attention to what inputs/outputs...

Re: My newest project

Just think, once they're removed from the plug, you could take it, glass over all the wood and have a 5th to play with!

That mostly-joking statement aside, it's a gorgeous craft to follow in the...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

Definitely will be keeping it up to date with every trip out and things in between. It almost feels strange, not having done nearly as much this year to prepare for the water as compared to last.

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

May 2nd is my wet date, which is fine, gives me another weekend to toy.

Set up my adjustable poles for my solar panel, mounted the new tiller (still need to sand and varnish tho), sealed my solar...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

Picked up a used Mercury outboard that someone was selling on the side of the road. Need to find a kicker mount for it, since the design of the cover won't allow it to fit in the well. Also got new...

Re: Wow how plans can change....in my mind at least!

My brother had an O'day 23 that he kept in a slip near Watertown on Lake Ontario, lived aboard for a summer while working up there. Granted it isn't the largest cabin in the world, but it was easily...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

And since I couldn't help it... just ordered a new set of Taylor Made adjustable bimini poles to use for the solar mount. And then ordered new vinyl lettering in the form of the boat name (feel bad...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

That's very true, regarding the area. Most of my outings last summer were day or weekend trips. And when you're only talking one extra hour each way on a 48 hour journey, it's not a lot total. It was...

Re: Lake Ontario rendezvous

I'll be putting into Fairpoint Marina this year, and should be able to make pretty much any weekend work, as long as I have a couple weeks notice to gear up. Would love to get out and see more people...

Re: Excalibur 26 - Resto on a budget

So, a pre-season update of sorts. With the harsh winter this year, haven't yet had a chance to do anything with the boat yet, aside from watch the snow pile up. However, it looks like I'm graduating...

Re: Team Vestas coming back

They obviously forfeit that leg, and subsequent ones, just like when one loses a mast or whatever. They are basically doing it to finish the legs they can. They know they can't win, but it's...

Re: chart plotter performance without external antenna?

I doubt you'll have any problems. I took my VHF into the bowels of a Hurley 22, stuck it in every corner I could get it into, while shaded under trees on a trailer to test the GPS on the radio and it...

Re: chart plotter performance without external antenna?

I have mine mounted down in the cabin, ceiling mounted near the hatch. Hatch open or closed, I haven't noticed any issues, or noticeable difference in performance.

Re: Winter sailing in Northeast

I would love to, but not really any easy places to keep mine in on the lake, so while I would've loved to be out there, I just don't have an easy way to do it. Definitely jealous, and would've been...
