Re: Ocean baby rescue underway off Mexico

The reportage here sounds just like when it's a firearm story: minimum BS content of 75%. Clueless reporters spewing sensational, headline-grabbing soundbites for the clueless audience to be thrilled...

"Class jib", "working jib"

Which one refers to a "100%" jib? Or are these terms synonymous?

And while I'm at it, I often see the term "125 jib" thrown around. Isn't this a misnomer? Shouldn't that be "125 Genoa"?

Thanks...

Re: Vibram "FiveFingers" shoes

Bingo. This is a big attraction for me as well, jumping out at the boat ramp or wherever, onto sharp or slippery things.

For those of you who have them (glad to hear some of you do!) do you know...

Re: Sailboat off Marco Island tries to ride out Thursday's storm - Wink News

I don't get it. Sea Tow came and got them "after the boat ran out of gas" ... while they were at anchor?

I'm very new to sailing. People use an engine while at anchor??

stopping on a dime

In our sailing class last year, the instructor briefly touched on the subject of bringing the boat to a stop in the shortest possible time. But neither my wife nor I can remember what he said the...

Solar battery charger showing 19 volts?

I know nothing about this charger, it came with my boat. It's old and small and raggedy looking and falling apart at the seams (literally). I didn't expect it to work, and hesitated to hook it up to...

Re: tool of choice for hunting soft spots/rot

FWIW, this is the cockpit floor (sole?) of my brand-new-to-me Catalina 22. Port stern corner. It's been cracked since owner-before-last, probably three years at the very least, PO thought it was no...

tool of choice for hunting soft spots/rot

Odd, I've just spent an hour googling this simple question and I still don't have a definitive answer. A hammer of some kind, I assume, but WHAT kind?

I know I have an upcoming repair to do, and I...

Re: SILICONE to mount in-hull transducer?

Brian, I was intrigued by the West System method in the link you posted, is that the way you get the unit perfectly level, without the use of an angled base of some kind?

Re: SILICONE to mount in-hull transducer?

Greg, that's essentially how my transducer (Airmar P79) mounts. It comes with a plastic cylinder "base", which is cut at an angle and flanged on one end. This end is placed on the hull, rotated until...

SILICONE to mount in-hull transducer?

Silicone??

That's what my instructions are saying, to use clear silicone! I had always heard they were epoxied in place, but the instructions say something about this way being better because it's...

Re: test please ignore

"The time has come", the Walrus said, ''to speak of other things. Of ships and shoes and sealing-wax, of cabbages and kings. And if the sea is boiling hot, on whether pigs have wings."

Sorry ......

Great post, Lemonshirt. My wife and I took our C22 out for the first time just a couple weeks ago. Neither of us had any sailing experience but a weekend ASA class. Thank goodness we opted to do it...

bedding rudder gudgeons

I'm rebedding all the deck hardware on my Catalina 22, and I'd like to do the rudder next. It's a '79 and I'm pretty sure it's never been done.

What do the experts recommend, Sikaflex 291? Butyl...

Re: Fish club, or sex toy?

I actually gave it a pretty thorough detail after that pic was taken, particularly the cowling. Sadly, it shined up the paint but took off a lot of what was left of the labeling.

I DO love this...

Re: Fish club, or sex toy?

There doesn't seem to be any way to tilt it high enough to get the prop out of the water. Other than this stick, anyway. :)
