Re: Yanmar 1gm10 alternator wiring question

Looks like you got some spare wires in there- hard to say what for. Best bet is to remove the extra wires. The alternator needs the following connections (letters on your alternator)

E- goes to...

Re: Copper+epoxy???

I was skeptical also, but it worked for me and like I say, many other boaters, as well as military and commercial. I am surprised it is not sold in places like West Marine, but then again I think...

Re: Copper+epoxy???

Quite a few boaters here in Hawaii use the Ameron ABC 3. Haul outs here are difficult (you may be 60 miles away from a travel lift) and very expensive. The boaters I have talked with leave their...

Re: Good short wave radio to get started with

2nd that, I have bought several Icom 710's off craigslist and they work great. Some may need to be "unlocked", but once done, they can be used on all Marine and Ham bands legally (if unlocked by...

Re: 1/8 Inch Diameter Circles On Gel Coat

I did sand through the gel coat and under I saw no liquid, only solid glass. Could be some minor osmosis going on. I think I will just let it go until the next haul out in 5 years and see what it...

Re: 1/8 Inch Diameter Circles On Gel Coat

No screws. The circles are on the outside of the hull below the water line. The hull is not cored (solid glass). The circles are present where there is nothing mounted on the interior of the boat....

1/8 Inch Diameter Circles On Gel Coat

When I bought my boat 6 years ago I sanded the bottom and repainted. The boat has about 8 layers of paint on the bottom. These layers look like hull gel coat then as follows: bottom paint, tie...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

Minne:
The test for LP paint vs one part as specified by Awlgrip, Alexseal, and interlux is as follows:
-soak a rag with solvent (each company has a different solvent type) and then tape a ziplock...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

Agree- that was covered in my Post #4:

Interesting. This whole painting thing has got me totally confused. One problem I am not sure if the paint on my hull top side is two part or one part. I did...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

My boat originally was a white gel coat. Then a Polish girl decided she wanted to sail around the world alone and being Polish, and Red and White being the color of the Polish Flag, it would then be...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

1. If I'm following you, they are saying that Awlgrip over Awlcraft/unknown acrylic is more compatible than Alexseal over Awlcraft/unknown acrylic? Awlgrip is a fine product, with limitation stated...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

Saw and spoke with the folks at Hawaii Pacific Diversified. Very knowledgeable. They sell interlux, awlgrip, and Alexseal. Took a boat part with the hull paint on it. They think it was single...

Re: Awlgrip Vs Interlux Perfection

I did try scraping. Not really effective as the paint was so hard, when I did break through the paint, I would also end of gauging the gelcoat. Sanding did best as I could control the depth of the...

Re: How to repair rotting core surrounding chainplates

I had some areas on my boat with a similar problem (ply wood core). I used a bent nail on a drill to whip away any rotted and wet wood, then poured alcohol (rubbing is fine) into the hole (covered...

Re: Yanmar 3GMD Engine Seized

Hey thanks for the parts price, the $2000 was based on my past yanmar purchases, and the mechanic I spoke with- not real exact. But I would replace all three liners and all pistons & rings from all...

Re: Yanmar 3GMD Engine Seized

FWI,
One of the mechanics I spoke with said this is a somewhat common problem here in Hawaii. Any engine that will set for more than a month should be "pickled". I did not ask the process but I...

Re: Yanmar 3GMD Engine Seized

If your head bolts/nuts and injectors/injector ports are heavily rusted, as mine were, I might consider it if you can do it in the of season and plan to keep your boat for many years.

Due to rust,...

Re: Yanmar 3GMD Engine Seized

One of the mechanics (self-employed one man) quoted me at $100/hr- that seems to be the going rate for any skilled work now. He stated 45 hrs to replace liners, new rings, and to clean up the head...

Re: Yanmar 3GMD Engine Seized

I think you are correct. A the larger HX required to also cool an exhaust header may make the engine to large for many installs- then the manufacturer would loose business. The additional equipment...
