With only 90W of array it can take the panels multiple DAYS to fully charge the batteries. The voltage rise will be in proportion to the available charge current. An alternator has a LOT more current...

Id stay with steel/cast iron for use with diesel fuel. Molded polypropylene is 'filled' with 'inerts' for strength and dimensional stability; some are reactive with oils which can cause 'swelling'....
