What items would YOU take cruising??

First, you need to answer some questions. Will your cruising be out of sight of land (i.e., night passages)? If so you''ll absolutely need jacklines and a gimballed stove so you can cook while...

Need to charter 5 sailboats in NY/NJ area

I don''t think they have that many in the 30-foot range, but Offshore Sailing School in Jersey City specializes in corporate team-building activities using their Colgate 26s. You might want to give...

Selling an S2 30?

You might want to post this on the S2 e-mail list elsewhere on this site. I''m sure you''ll get a lot of responses, maybe even an offer.

There are plenty of places to shop, eat 7 drink (especially drink). depending on where you''re going to be starting from, St. Thomas has the most shopping, accessible from Charlotte Amalie harbor or...

Charter-Spanish Virgins

I don''t know of any in PR but the Spanish Virgins are a nice downwind sail from St. Thomas, where there are plenty of charter companies.

Pirate Survives Hurricane, vessel unknown

Ahoy, Pirate. Been thinkin'' of ya and glad to hear you''re OK. Your distress is obvious from your language - you sound just like the rest of us right now. Fair winds.

house batteries

Great, detailed answer Gord, but you''ve convinced me to stay away from AGMs. Sounds like I''d need to buy a new engine to avoid destroying them!

house batteries

Isn''t there something tricky about recharging the AGM batteries? I think I heard you need some kind of special alternator or regulator. Any thoughts on that?

Catalina 30 - Docking

I believe SailNet carries a fold-down midships cleat that attaches to the toe rail that I''ve heard good things about. My boat, a 28'' S2, also has no midships cleat. When docking, I use the...

Best rig for singlehandling?

If "best rig for singlehanded" means simplest or easiest to use, my vote would have to be for the catboat - one sail, one set of sheets, simplicity itself.

Why get all hung up on CG registration? It''s an option, not a requirement. You''ll probably find it a lot easier to just register the boat in your state same as a motor vehicle.

Yes, s/v is sailing vessel and s/y is sailing yacht, but that said, I agree completely with Knothead that the difference is ego.
