Re: A Not so Good Experience with a Sailnet(er) transaction

In the good old days local stores posted checks from customers who wrote bad checks. That was a good practice which not merely shamed the offenders, but also let other folks avoid problems with these...

Re: What would you do with the Trailer?

In most states trailer registration and insurance are very cheap. It is the storage that will cost you, but winter storage of boat on a trailer is still cheaper and safer then leaving it in water....

Re: Using sails of another boat?

Keep your jib positioned as low as possible - it works much better that way. Smaller jib is no big deal. Make sure you do not buy one that is too big. Re-cutting sails that are too big costs a lot of...

Re: Missing 25 Foot Sail Boat and Skipper

Thanks. That makes sense. Looks like he was just drifting during that time, which is peculiar, as his mast was intact. Maybe his halyard fell out of the mast head and he was unable to hoist up the...

Re: Rising Income Inequality Causing Wealthy Americans To Take On Second ... - The On

Somebody needs to keep buying these brand new $300K boats so that the rest of us can buy them 30 years later for 20 grand.

Re: Easterly 36 sailing characteristics

The boat seems a lot more cramped then it really is, given her 15,000 lb displacement. That is because it has very old fashioned (and very seaworthy) berth layout on top of her modest beam. Galley...

Here is a S&S sigma 36 - much, much better boat IMO in the same price range:

Re: Missing 25 Foot Sail Boat and Skipper

That is great news. He must have stopped the leak, or at least slowed it down. I wonder if the leak was related to his rudder, as he was apparently unable to sail.

Re: Sailing Alone Better?

If I sail with others, I assume they know nothing. If they can follow simple instructions, they can be useful as rail meat or to do simple things for me. If they do something wrong, it is usually...

Re: 30k Sailing Kitty, whatís your next move?

When you find a boat that meets your objectives in terms of features, quality, and price, make sure you are actually in love with her. This primal attraction is key, IMO, to a long lasting and happy...

Re: help identifying this ailboat

Re: Blocks, Sheaves and Pulleys: Did I screw up???

I would not use dyneema line - cost aside, it will be way too thin to work well when pulling by hand. 8 mm line should work ok with small sheaves unless you see it twisting too much or be visibly too...

Re: Blocks, Sheaves and Pulleys: Did I screw up???

Mark, you likely have the lines crossed somewhere, creating a drag instead of lift, or that the rope is too big and creates drag on it's own. Running a rope through 3 blocks is confusing. Make sure...

Re: Missing 25 Foot Sail Boat and Skipper

Even if he got in his kayak before the boat sunk, his chances of making it to shore would have been slim to none in that weather and in that place. He probably joined the Davy Jones crew. RIP old...
