One product I've found is Orange Off. Ordered but not yet tried. Have used acetone in a few spots so far but really trying to minimize its use and make sure it gets washed off pretty quickly.

Lol...

Hylalon without Toluene (California)

Hi All,

I recently bought a 10 year old 9' Caribe. It's seen a lot of use but has been reasonably kept and seems fundamentally sound, I'm putting in a little elbow grease to try and restore it to...

I was happy with the Victron I installed in my last boat and also the linklite I installed in my current boat.

From a very lightweight user point of view (use voltage and amps but never thought to...

Re: Marina unplugged my dock cord and damaged my boat

No to ice storms and the ocean water is over 60 right now, haven't lost power for more than 24 hours in eight years of ownership here that I know of. When the boat is out of town I leave it prepared...

From what you write my gut says find another place the time at this place is passed.

As for compensation I'm unsure where you stand legally but it would be worth having a frank conversation about...

Re: I got a sailboat for my birthday.

You'll be happy with a sailboat on a lake and 16' is big enough for camping trips, lazy picnics and trailering to other lakes. If you can find a friend who knows how to sail for some on the water...

Re: Percentage self-taught sailors?

Not I....

Sure it can be done but you can spend a lot of time not knowing you're doing something wrong without some helping hand.

Basics I learnt from my Grandpa, then yearly holidays as a...

Re: Radar on 18-20 ft sailboat

If you do mount radar make sure the screen is easily viewable from the cockpit, it wasn't on my last boat and anytime it got foggy I found I didn't want to spend the time going to check it (and each...

Re: How do you start from nothing?

You don't need to join a club to crew on a boat sailing out of it. Once on a boat learnt to do one thing well and keep your eyes peeled on everything around you. Even if racing isn't for you this...

Re: Single-handed tips and tricks

FoolishMuse's book has a good section on sleep citing a variety of long distance sailors personal experiences and also clinical studies. Hallucinations are part and parcel of it.

Re: Journey or the Destination

My only destinations at the moment are for racing deliveries, and while they tend to be lovely I love the delivery sail with the ocean and it's dolphins, whales and flying fish, more.

When the...

Re: Single-handed tips and tricks

My feeling is I want to move my jacklines further inboard. Downwind in particular the high side isn't so high, upwind with the boat heeled things feel a bit safer (sticking to the high side).

As...

Re: Single-handed tips and tricks

Enjoying this thread!

One thought about lines led aft is it makes it harder on my boat to run a good jackline - I have halyards exactly where I want the safety line to go. I'm still trying to work...

Re: Tartan 3700 issues, PLEASE!

I wouldn't rule the model either but there are other manufacturers and models out there that are also both comfortable and somewhat salubrious. Look at Sabre (the 362 for example) or the J109. Going...

Re: Light air/Downwind sail choices

If new to sailing with large downwind sails bear in mind that anything needing a pole to fly it adds considerable complication to your experience and therefore is less likely to get used and likely...

Re: Single-handed tips and tricks

To jump the main I lead the halyard around a winch and back to the mast, jump with left hand and tail with the right. A cam cleat might be easier but this approach seems to work reasonably well.

Ditto on auto pilot ftw though if anything is dicey I hand steer - coming out of SD yesterday I had warships on maneuvers a cruise ship coming into the channel and kelp everywhere. Fun times....

Re: Team Vestas Wind grounded in the VOR

This incident sucks for the VOR, Team Vestas and most of all Wouter. He got lucky, as he must know, as everyone got out of this okay, though the environmental costs are not insignificant.

Sure he...

I also lose weight if sailing for more than a couple of days in a row. The small movements, constantly, add up - even when cruising.

However if you want to challenge both your body and your...
