Storing/using VC17 anti-fouling

Is it advisable to store mixed, unused VC17 to use the next year. I often have a half a can left over of this expensive stuff. I put the lid on, store it over the winter, and apply the next spring...

Re: Paint v. Gelcoat

I'm not real clear on what you're talking about. It sounds like you're talking about both the topsides, and the bottom. Is that right?

They're two different animals.

Nothing wrong with a...

Re: why a storm jib?

Looks like you've received some good answers to your question. Furl it too much and it's no longer really a sail. They become inefficient very quickly.

I'm a neighbor of your's up here in...

Re: What is This?

I have one of those too. Considering I thought the hinged thing on the top was a chin strap, I'm probably using mine all wrong.

Re: Admonished in front of the crew

You had it listed for sale under "General Discussion (sailing related). I don't care how much you sell it for...just wondered why you didn't use the classifieds.
Work on your issues.

Sail Sale...Best Sail Broker?

I'm currently waiting for Mack Sails to make me a new set of sails for my new-to-me 2004 Precision 23.

The old sails, which are the original main and furling genoa, probably didn't deserve to be...

Re: Making wooden spreaders. Material?

The best wood for spreaders is aluminum. Preferably from an old growth aluminum forest. Won't rot, needs no care, durable, lightweight, and can be recycled.

Re: First Timer with bottom paint (VC17)

VC17's been covered on this site before. Plenty of good information if you use the search function.

Re: Something to hold tiller in place

I have used the Davis, and it's alright. I'm currently using the Wave Front Tiller Clutch (as mentioned by a previous poster) on my Precision 23. The tiller clutch is vastly superior to the Davis. ...

Re: What's the best was to seal my stanchion bases?

I think we're having trouble understanding the mounting surface of your stanchions. Can you give some details on how wide the actual contact surface is? A picture would be very useful, too. VERY...

Re: Am I my Brothers Keeper?

When I'm selling something...ESPECIALLY a boat, I do not discriminate. Equal opportunity. That was easy. Got any tough questions?

Re: Loos Gauges and Alternative Rig Tuning Methods

I can vouch for the Selden method. I used it on my Catalina 309. I cut a piece of plastic electric conduit pipe to the required length to use instead of a folding rule. I ground down the lower end...

Re: How big a holding tank vs. camping

I'm a member of a very small minority of people who prefer a porta potti to any other system. People are reluctant to consider a porta over a holding tank system, but why anyone would prefer a...

Re: Price of boats... Wow!!!

Those kind of prices are spooky.

I bought a Catalina 309 new in 2007, and it appears that the 315 is at least 70k more than what I paid.

I just bought a 2004 Precision and paid 16.4k. I saw in...

Re: Make No Assumptions.

If you reversed the roles in this situation, would you be blaming her if she had failed to tell you how to release the parking brake?

Sounds to me like she goofed.

Re: P.O.'s are Idiots!

P.O.'s are Idiots!

Okay, so this is going to be a little tongue on cheek, but there may be some truth here.

P.O., meaning "previous owner", of course.

I just bought a 2004 Precision 23 from the original owner. ...

Re: I bought my first boat.. now i have a million question

Ditto on holding off on upgrades for now.

There are two things every sailor has to learn:
1. how to sail well
2. how to manage the maintenance of your vessel

Don't discount the importance...

Re: Why port tack gives way to starboard tack

Yeah.

Otherwise every time you found yourself on a collision course, you'd have to do rock, scissors stone to see who is the stand on vessel.

Re: Dinghy repair

Easy enough. Just get the hypalon patches, and the special glue, and patch it up. You're likely to find it all in a kit. First place I'd look is Defender.

You'll find instructions in the kit,...

Re: Why I sail small boats

I just sold my Catalina 309 (31 ft.) and replaced it with a Precision 23. No regrets. I find it much more fun to sail.

We're in a fairly big marina, here in Muskegon, MI, and it's probably the...

Re: Small boat anchor

I'd lean heavily toward the danforth. I recently bought a Precision 23, and it came with a West Marine danforth style anchor. My previous boat was a 31 foot Catalina that we used to cruise all over...

Re: A 60 foot sailboat for $2,600 found on Craigslist

Re: Looking for pointers on painting the bottom

Ditto on using a Scotchpad on vc17. I prefer to use it wet, either by dipping it in a bucket of water now and then, or hosing the bottom of the boat. No sense in exposing yourself to any copper...
