if you really want to compare apples to apples, you need to compare Awlgrip with Interlux Perfection. The consensus I found in my research is that Awlgrip was better for spraying, Perfection better...

you just need to sand down to the point where nothing is shiny anymore. If you are at all worried about the bond between the old paint and primer, sand it down to the primer and re-coat with Epoxy...

best bet is to use the slowest hardener, and let it sit for a few minutes before working with it to let the bubbles pop out.
