Re: Ablative anti-fouling paint, One coat or ten?

Fstbttms,

I wish my area was low fouling! And if this is, I'd hate to see what is high fouling.

I typically clean my bottom every couple of weeks. I use a soft brush and rarely have any hard...

Re: Ablative anti-fouling paint, One coat or ten?

An additional thought...

How often do you clean the bottom. If you are a racer, you are going to polish pretty often, removing some paint. If you are a cruiser, you will clean less often.

As...

Re: loosening jib halyard on roller furling

I'm sure few will agree, but I still use wire/rope halyard. When I bought my T 27 in 2001, it still had the original 1966 halyard! I figured, what the hell, it lasted that long, I'll stick with it....

Re: Dinghy and Engine Choices

Like asdf38, I've gone through several dinghies for my Tartan 27. Started with a 7 foot fiberglass. Too small, not stable enough. Went to a 8.6 inflatable and 2 hp honda outboard. It would fit on...

Re: Are you a dock person or a mooring person?

MaineSail, I've never seen anything like those boats with dock damage. Damn. I'm a mooring guy, so I didn't need persuading, but that's an eye opener.

Barry and I are in the same club, same...

Re: Short tacking to windward is sailings heavy lifting.

From my point of view, short tacking is in the same zip code as sailing on and off your mooring. A test of skill, forethought, and adventure that brightens my day. Turns the ordinary into fun.

Re: Repowering a Pearson 31

Drop by the Moyer Marine Forum. Great bunch of guys. Straight shooters even though they (we) love our A4s. Many have extra blocks, total spare engines, etc. Take some pictures, get some...

Re: Fairing interior fiberglass after core replacement

Wow, it amazes me how many of us are crazy enough to do this job. Great work.

I did my re core from the top, so my sanding and fairing was physically easier. I used West System with low density...

Re: Rigging knife

I carry the stainless version of the Myerchin. It has a sheep's foot tip, not a sharp point. Same scabbard and marlin spike. Great knife.

Re: Fresh water tank vent location options

My Tartan 27's fresh water tank vents inside the anchor locker, FWIW.

Re: Replacement stanchions?

Do you need to stantion and the base, or just the stantion?

I might have something that will work.

Re: How much for Atomic 4 Engine?

Go to the Moyer Marine site and you will get great advice and probably find a buyer.

Remember to post where it is...location location location!

Re: pics of sail covers made for lazy jack systems?

Jon,

Excellent points. Great idea to eliminate the slap and batten hang up.

The PO installed mine and I was tempted to just remove it. I single hand a lot, so I figured I give them a shot. ...

Re: pics of sail covers made for lazy jack systems?

My line is continuous. It starts tied to an eye on the forward, starboard side of the boom. Up to the block, which is suspended from a length of stainless wire. Down to an eye under the aft...

Re: pics of sail covers made for lazy jack systems?

Good luck.

If I made one now, I'm not sure which way I would go. The one I have works well, but in truth, once the sail is tied up, the lazy jacks are in the way of hoisting. If they were...

Re: pics of sail covers made for lazy jack systems?

Thanks, my hull is a very dark green, the deck is painted beige/sand.

The cover has zippers for at the two points on the port side. The starboard side is a solid piece of fabric. When putting it...

Re: pics of sail covers made for lazy jack systems?

Had a chance to take a couple of pics last night.

Here's my Tartan 27. The PO had this made. I just have to loosen the lines a little after I tie up the sail.

Re: Best way to get cushions

My wife and I spent yesterday's snow day here on Long Island making new cushions for my Tartan 27. The PO lost or threw out the old ones, so I cut foam to fit. Got the foam from a buddy who had foam...

Re: Caternary & Chain...

I can't find the reference right now, but Rod Stephens of S&S is on record discouraging the use of a chain rode. If I recall, he believed chain stresses fittings and does not add to holding...
