Re: destroyed impeller

^^^ This.

Tho until grabbing that key and opening the valve becomes habit, if you've a spare key, say, in a drawer in the galley, best put it away somewhere else.

It was the end of our first...

Re: changing to folding props

I don't recall having any particular problems in reverse with our Martec, when we had it on the boat, except when it was greatly in need of reconditioning. Boat doesn't slow down or stop worth spit...

Re: changing to folding props

Y'know, FB, if it were just about anybody else, I'd tend to concur with you. But it's been my experience that Jeff is pretty damn level-headed, and, along with you and a few others I could name,...

Re: Starboard and Port tacks?

Respectfully disagree.

18. Responsibilities between vessels
A sailing vessel must give way to:
a vessel restricted in her ability to maneuver

I boat that is "sailing free" (downwind) is...

Re: changing to folding props

The folding prop will certainly produce marginally less drag than the feathering prop. Whether that margin is worthwhile or not, I could not say. The big advantage to a folding prop over a...

Re: changing to folding props

Thanks, Jeff, for taking the time to write that detailed story. Based on your experience, I'm now thinking perhaps we should give our Martec another chance.

Re: Starboard and Port tacks?

Good question, Ron. I don't know the answer, for sure.

We had a similarly confused situation, yesterday. We were on a starboard tack and on a collision course with a boat on a port tack. We...

Re: changing to folding props

Wow, that's a lot of prop shaft he has between the shaft log and cutlass bearing! I don't think Abracadabra has half that.

Here's been our experiences:
Our first season with Abracadabra, with...

Does he get protested a lot? :laugher

Thread necromancy lives!

(emphasis added) That, IMHO, is the easist way to remember it: Whichever side the wind is on: That's your tack.

Re: changing to folding props

Wow, Jeff, I think that's the first negative review of a Gori prop I've ever seen.

Several dead-serious racers in our club use & swear by them. Many of them with pretty damn expensive boats. Alex...

Re: changing to folding props

Folding props? Engines? Multiple? You have more than one prop and engine? What kind of boat are we talking about?

If you're racing a folding prop is pretty much a necessity. They'll give you...

If it survives. Delete the OT areas and members will go elsewhere to talk about non-sailing-related stuff. "Good," you say? Not if you're an advertiser on SN and, therefore, not if you're trying...

I suggest it's not a problem until it's a problem. Then investigate the alleged troublemaker, and, if the allegations are found to have merit, take the appropriate corrective action. I cannot see...

As one of the moderators noted: No, it's not.

Here's a really outrageous idea (in this day-and-age): Hold individuals responsible for their bad behaviour instead of punishing everybody? I know...

Sailing Anarchy does that. I find it annoying as hell. I rarely modify my own posts long after the fact, but I have done it on occasion.

Re: Xantrex sucks - What replaces an Xantrex Echo-Charger?

I prefer the Echo Charge's operation, but I'm concerned enough about Xantrex' customer service reputation that I'm considering a Blue Sea ACR, instead.

Yup, that's what happens.

Over on another, non-sailing-related, forum, several years ago, I took a principled, but unpopular position. A number of people who intensely disliked my position took...

Re: Xantrex sucks - What replaces an Xantrex Echo-Charger?

I still plan to purchase an Xantrex Echo Charge, but I wish there was a comparable price-competitive product from somebody else. Xantrex' product/customer support reputation is abysmal :(
