Re: Light, medium, or heavy oxidation?

Thanks krazzz, also glad to hear people with positive results.

Tempest, do you think the Star brite Hull Cleaner will be good enough? I was told by someone to start with less harsh stuff first and...

Re: Light, medium, or heavy oxidation?

Cool. I guess I'll just start with the Cleaner / Wax and then go to the Restorer / Wax for the parts of the boat that has no gloss at all like the top side. Thanks for the great link as well...

Light, medium, or heavy oxidation?

I've been slacking as a new (to us) sailboat owner. The boat has gone a few seasons without a wax and is starting to oxidize. How do I determine if it's light, medium, or heavy oxidation?

Here are...

Re: Indoor vs outdoor storage

@smurphny Ouch. Not a bad idea. Fortunately the indoor location is a pretty solid structure.

Re: Indoor vs outdoor storage

Thank you all so much for the thoughtful responses. I think I'm just going to bite the bullet and store her indoors. It's got a 6HP that I'll take off, winterize, and store in my basement. I picked...

Indoor vs outdoor storage

Last year I stored our Capri indoors for $300 for the season. This year it's jumped to $400. I have some options for storing outdoors for $100-200. I generally thought storing indoors would be less...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

I really appreciate it. I did a bunch of work on my Triumph, though that was made out of a material called Ropolene which was easily plastic welded. I'll have to get over my fear of fiberglass soon...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

I guess it'd be worth getting a quote for both. I personally don't quite feel confident in my ability to either place it properly or seal it correctly.

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

Ah. That's something I hadn't considered. I sail primarily in the Finger Lakes (Canandaigua specifically) in NY. We race a few class boats but at this point aren't necessarily planning on racing this...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

Ya, I think the advantages of knowing water temp and hull speed might not be worth the cost of putting a big hole in the hull. ;-)

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

Thanks OS2Dude. It's great to hear from people who own the system. I think I'm going to keep my eyes peeled for a deal and do the install before next season. I'm still torn mounting or adding a depth...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

I found a Garmin kit, GMI 10, windex, and depth, for around $900 and refurbished GMI 10's for around $250.

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

What happend to the blade Deric?

BarryL, I was thinking about the fish finder route and just going with a mechanical windex. One of the neat things about the electronics windex plus GPS is the...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

Glad to hear that svzephyr44. When I was researching brands and reading reviews thats what most of the negative comments were regarding Garmin. Looking at how frequently they are pushing out updates...

Re: Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

Thanks MarkSF, that's a lot of food for thought. I don't love the idea of being tied to a battery, especially since I'm currently moored and don't have any way of charging it while on the water, but...

Experience with Garmin GMI 10 and related NMEA 2000 sensors?

We recently purchased our first sailboat and now that we're heading into storage season we are starting to think about items we'd like to have next season. There are no gauges, telltales (besides...

Re: External fuel tank air vent

Great, thanks MarkSF. I've learned my lesson from overfilling some 5 gal tanks in my garage. ;-) This is a '08 that was bought in '10 so I'm guessing the tank was produced somewhere in there,...

Re: External fuel tank air vent

Thank you for the amazingly quick response RichH. I hadden't thought of the water aspect and it makes perfect sense. The external tank is stowed under the port locker so it's out of direct sunshine....

External fuel tank air vent

I've got a 6HP Nissan with an external tank. The manual says to close air vent when the engine is stopped. The concern I have is with the pressure that builds up in the tank with the air vent closed....
