Not familiar with the Thunderbird but the Bristols, at least the ones I'm familiar with, all put the motor in a lazaret and they can not be got up out of the water so to much drag.

Yes, I don't like the brackets, I don't have the strength to raise and lower most of them and like the ease of maintenance of the outboard.
