Re: Boat for Pacific Passage - yes or no?

Hi Chris,

I've lived and sailed in the Okinawan chain for 16 years. The generic information you read isn't specific enough, and it depends on your route. I wrote that July-Sept. is considered...

Re: Boat for Pacific Passage - yes or no?

I'd like to stay on topic, rather than be dissed for not having enough experience, but I guess you feel free. Fair enough. I've never owned the sort of boat I'm now looking for. Grew up sailing;...

Good to hear, Can I PM you?

For sure, YachtWorld is a good resource, it would be helpful to have a few recommendations too.

Re: Boat for Pacific Passage - yes or no?

Hi Chris,

I'm thinking to purchase by Aug/Sept. 2015, and will make several trips in the next two years to marinas, view boats, network (e.g. this coming August, the following March). Would hope...

Boat for Pacific Passage - yes or no?

Hoping to run this by some experienced offshore eyes.

My plan is to purchase on North American west coast (or Mexico), coastal shakedowns, passage to HI, Oceania, NZ, Aus., Indonesia, Philippines,...

I much appreciate reading your posts and all the information on your journey with Boreal -- one of the most amazing boats to be seen on this forum and thread, imho.

Thanks Hannah,

I am by birth a New Englander too (emoticon of 'pride' here). we must be careful not to go OT on this thread but I'd like to thank you for mentioning Dodge Morgan - Wikipedia, the...

Re: Interesting Sailboats

Hi Paulo,

You seem to have some animus about the age of Dr. Paris? It seems solo sailing circumnavigation for records is risky enough, so I suppose age is one additional risk factor. You wrote:

Re: This Capable Boat: Recommendations?

Nice boat. I've been waiting for the outcome of Farrier's production/kit F-22 (http://www.f-boat.com/pages/trimarans/F-22.html). The Telstar ama retraction method is unique, isn't it? Not sure how...

Re: This Capable Boat: Recommendations?

Hi Puddin,
Some replies to yours:

You'll find me in Kumamoto Prefecture, sailing from Kami-Amakusa Island, or Yatsushiro. To the southeast is the Shiranui Sea, an inland sea which has a...

Re: This Capable Boat: Recommendations?

I will add that the weather here reminds me almost daily that predictive science is doubtful in our local environs. I returned from a week of sailing, with rain predicted every day -- we had no rain,...

Re: This Capable Boat: Recommendations?

I agree -- I was presenting to my mind a "limit" situation for weather. Yesterday, out near Nagasaki, a cold front arrived, with 15m/s (30 knot) wind -- which was just fun on the Sun Odyssey 37. It...

Re: This Capable Boat: Recommendations?

Thanks -- seems that selection is limited with a centerboard boat, but it is the right way to go. the J/95 fits my "theoretical" choice really well. Pragmatically, it's not a boat I can afford...
