Re: Worst Sailboats Ever!

Have you checked out UASHO (Uglyboat Admiration Society Hang Out) (http://forums.sailinganarchy.com/index.php?showtopic=141767&hl=%2Bugly+%2Bsailboats) over at Sailing Anarchy? Plenty of fodder in...

Re: Catalina or Hunter?

Both can be potentially good boats for your intended purpose (living aboard) and budget ($50k). You'll likely find that some of the larger Hunters (37 Legend, etc.) may be available, or put another...

Re: My teenage design efforts

Just saying I saw a little Shannon 28/38 in the "34' sloop" about halfway through the blog post, that's all. Like I said, for all I know, they may have been influenced by your designs...or most...

Re: My teenage design efforts

Now that's a fun blog post. I was expecting cartoony sketches (of questionable quality like my own), but those are legit!

In addition to the influences you mentioned in the post, I see some...

Re: Recommendations for insurance

We currently have Progressive and have also used them in the past on two previous boats with liability only. We've never had a claim, so I can't comment on their performance, but customer service...

Re: New or Old?

It's the bow thruster/Dock-n-Go system plus nav/radar, plus a few other little electrical gremlins. I do believe the nav electrical issues were a dealer issue, but thruster was a manufacturer issue....

Re: Anyone ever sold at a profit?

I sold both of my previous two sailboats for more than I paid for either, but these were cheap (<$10k) and older (70's era) boats that I kept in great shape. Both had long since bottomed out on the...

Re: Best metal sailboat information

I am by no means a metal boat expert, but here's a bit of info about metal sailboats that was shared with me by Ted Brewer: The Metal Yacht - Aluminum & Steel Sailboat Perspectives...

Re: New or Old?

I think the value is in a well-maintained pre-owned boat.

I know a dock neighbor who recently purchased a new large CataBeneJene sailboat and has had a lot of issues, particularly with electrical...

Re: Why do people still use depth sounders?

Mine is most relevant during anchoring. I'll glance at it from time to time while sailing, but almost never sail in areas where I don't know the local hazards or haven't checked the charts.

Having...

Re: sail on or sail off?

No personal experience storing an in-mast main over winter, but I'd probably opt to take it down. At the very least, that allows for a closer end-of-season inspection of the sail and furling gear so...

Re: My Retirement Plan - Finding the Right Boat

Of those listed above (and "all things being equal"), I'd favor the Island 30's and the Cal 3-30. Both are from respected builders and feature diesel power, something to keep as a priority.

I...

Re: Bottom paint for summer only fresh water boat?

Here's what Interlux says about using VC over existing antifouling paint:
Removal is best but if this is not possible, start sanding with 80 grade (grit)
paper and progressively sand with finer...

Re: Bottom paint for summer only fresh water boat?

Many of us in the Great Lakes (cold freshwater) use a thin, slick, low-friction copper based product like Interlux VC17m, Pettit SR-21, or West Marine FW-21. It's easy to apply and doesn't require a...

Re: Mainsail and rigging questions

The other two halyards are essentially spares and nice to have as options. They can be used for a variety of things such as:

- an emergency replacement if one your other two primaries breaks
-...

Bob Perry lurks here often, so I suspect he'll chime in and be able to answer your questions.

In the meantime, have you seen these B35 related resources?

Re: Motion sickness question. Am I crazy?

Nah, you're just crazy. :D

In all seriousness, I think there is a psychological component, but I believe most of it is physiological.

Re: Cruising Finances

I'm going to vaguely generalize and state that I believe most cruisers have paid-for boats and live off of retirement savings, real estate rental income, hard earned & saved cash, inheritance and/or...

Love the "Production Boats" page. Now we finally have a definitive list of the boats that bare your name, and maybe more importantly, can now distinguish the wannabe "Perry...

Re: Moisture on Boats

Moisture in the hull is a bigger issue to me than moisture in the deck. How bad is it? Lots of delamination or small osmotic blisters? I'm assuming you're talking about a cored hull, correct?

Re: Solo Climbing the Mast- Block and Tackle

I now use the TopClimber (similar to ATN MastClimber) and am very pleased with it. You can see my review of it here (http://www.sailfarlivefree.com/2014/06/climbing-to-top-review-of-topclimber.html).

Re: Suggestions for 28-32 cruiser?

D\L is displacement to length ratio. Careful with generalizations, but a heavier boat per length of waterline might generally offer less performance. Though that may come with increased sea keeping...
