Re: Buying a new boat . . . need help . . .

As you know, dealers purchase new boats from the manufacturer and you purchase the boat from the dealer. The mark-up between dealer cost and retail, or margin, can be as high as 33%. Depending on...

Re: Reasonable offer for a used boat?

Will second the advice of RobGallagher. Talk to to a yacht broker. They have access to soldboat.com data and can help you with entire process. Won't cost you anything if the boat you are buying is...

Re: Shore power cord replacement ring

Walk the docks and look for someone with the new style ELF shore power cord connections. For some reason I haven't figured out, these come with the black threaded rings in the package. Ask the guy...

Re: Florida is at it again

The waterways belong to all of us, not just the few who are wealthy enough to have a waterfront home. There are not that many places to anchor as it is on the Atlantic ICW between Cape Canaveral and...

Re: Boat Consultant vs Broker

Only Florida and California currently require licensing. I'm operating out of Houston, but the brokerage firm is based in California, so I'll be pursuing the California license.

Re: Boat Consultant vs Broker

Here is what I would do. First, find a broker and let the broker narrow down your search, deal with the seller's broker, do the market analysis, etc. Yes, your broker will be compensated from the...

Re: I just need a nut

Not sure about what your engine was before, but my Westerbeke M35B used to be a Universal. Also, the block is labeled "Kubota." Maybe yours is a Kubota, too.

Re: Red over Green Navigation Light

asdf: What defines you as a sailboat at night is the lack of a steaming light. Rule 25c of the COLREGs gives a sailing vessel the option to show an all around red light over an all around green...

Red over Green Navigation Light

Does anyone actually have a red over green navigation light (as allowed for in Rule 25) to indicate a vessel under sail at night?

Am considering installing this, but have never seen one set up. ...

Re: Embedded Chain plate maint/replacement

Just a thought, but you could leave the old chainplates where they are and rig new chainplates to the outside of the hull, or in the interior. Once you disconnect the shrouds from the chainplates,...

Re: Mandatory PFDs

I read that piece just yesterday. We've had discussions on PFD use on this forum before, but it looks like time for a new one.

In the article, he cites just under 4,000 boating deaths in the US...

Re: Gift ideas?

Space on a boat comes at a premium. Unless you know for a fact your sailor wants a particular item, I'd stick to expendable/consumable items or things used on shore (like the cuff links idea). For...

Re: Sailing Alone in the 21st Century
