Re: Cocaine $16M/£10M seized in Caribbean!

Here's another article:
HMS Argyll makes $15m drugs bust (http://www.royalgazette.com/article/20141028/NEWS/141029661)

It says "encountered a suspect yacht in the North Atlantic about 150 miles...

Re: Cocaine $16M/£10M seized in Caribbean!

There are a lot of differing viewpoints on US drug policy, and every one of them is a good way to get this thread shut down or moved to off-topicÖ.

Re: Anyone wear a PLB?

Agreed. My Catalina 22 is similar in size to that Harmony 22 and it is surprisingly difficult to get someone back in. It's a small boat, you'd think you could just drag someone over the side, but...

Re: Partial eclipse photos

Bummer!

An English guy stopped by and took a look through my filter while I was taking pictures. He said that several years ago he and his whole family travelled to see a total eclipse, but it was...

Partial eclipse photos

This isn't terribly sailing related, except that the pictures were taken over the lake that my boat was on.

Anyway, it was amazing! Not quite as cool as 1979 when my dad pulled me out of school so...

Re: Vocabulary help - Two Years Before the Mast

It wasn't just words, it was names too.

We only have a few examples of Shakespeare writing his own name (mostly in lawsuits, he lived in litigious times), and he spelled it differently every time.

Re: Vocabulary help - Two Years Before the Mast

Does this help?

From The Century Dictionary and Cyclopedia of 1889:
guess-warp, n. 1. Nautical, a hawser coiled in a boat, and carried from a vessel to any distant object for the purpose of...

Re: I had to cut away my anchor :(

Just to follow up, I did get a response from the city:

“Buoys are gone for the season. My crew recalled the rope being tied to the chain, they also tried to pull the rope up not realizing it was...

Re: training - offshore sailing

I took ASA 103-104 through Northern Breezes which teaches the classes in the Apostle Islands out of Bayfield, WI. They teach on 34' Hunters. I thought it was a very good value. I also took 106...

Re: Boat Us conducts anchor tests

That seemed dumb to me too. And it seemed dumb to them too, apparently. According to the All at Sea article:

"A great concern for all involved in the testing was that the anchors were not given a...

Re: Free boat. What is it?

I just did a Google search on JY9 dinghy and came up with this:
JY Sailboats Inc. JY9 (http://www.boats.com/boat-details/JY-Sailboats-Inc.-JY9/139000#.VEV_kYdGxkg)

That looks like the ticket.

Re: Production buckets and the limits

Great Lakes buckets are built with pop cans, most everywhere else in the world they're built with soda cans. In Atlanta they're built with coke cans.

Re: Production buckets and the limits

Wait. You take livestock offshore?

Turns out the original poster of this thread also started a thread about that very topic: Cruising with livestock -- any anchoring issues?...

Re: Onboard: Electric stove or other?

Well what the heck, I got an Origo single on eBay for $71. I realize this is far from the original topic of this thread, so when it arrives and I do my time-to-boil testing I'll start another thread.

Have you ever tried to take a leak in a bucket with a 50hp outboard on it? Not fun.

Look at the big crack in that production bucket!

Clearly not a bluewater bucket.

How dare you judge me?!?

That looks like a pretty good deal. I'm on another eBay auction for an Origo that ends this evening, assuming I get outbid again I'll consider the CookMate.

Re: Production buckets and the limits

I once bounced a steel bucket off a reef for 37 weeks straight and it showed nary a dent. I would never use anything less than a steel bucket.

Re: Making experienced sailors/boat owners get an ASA 104 to charter

I wonder if there's something about Croatia. I've heard two stories like this. One from an ASA teacher who gave a couple a crash course on their boat that they had owned for many years so that they...
