Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

That doesn't change the fact that it can ruin your outboard. There are some additives that will help but not eliminate the problem. I suspect that this is your cause for issues. This information is a...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

Your initial post states you have used ethanol in your gas. It's well known that ethanol attacks every gasket, seal, including your fuel hose, and breaks it down. A cleaning of the carburetor might...

Re: Interior Paint- marine grade or not?

Marine paints like Brightside are nothing more than a common polyurethane enamel. The same as used in most floor and deck paints. Ask at your local paint store. We have been using a good grade of...

Re: ICW passage through Florida Bay

Dave, With a 4' 10" draft, take your pick. It's just important to know where you are at all times on Bayside. Have a good set of current charts and you will be fine. We made the same transit from...

Re: 12VDC refrig water circulation pump quit

Dave, Even though your fridge doesn't run continuously, at least I hope, you should look for a continuous duty pump. You don't have to have a mag. pump. I have installed hundreds of refrigeration...

Re: Weather Routing--Predicted Wind.

Haven't used MaxSea. For passages we use both PassageWeather and ZyGrib. They usually give me as accurate a forecast as we can find anywhere. Both are GFS based but also have other model options....

Re: Weather Routing--Predicted Wind.

I have played around with the free version and have not been impressed. It is simply based on GFS models and the wind and seas state info from Zygrib will give me the same info for free....

Re: Wire chase source?

You can use typical pvc pipe. If the size is too large to bend along the hull, just heat it a bit and bend to fit. I have done this often to install wiring. Chuck

Re: New gas tank leaking

WM usually sells Moeller fuel tanks and they are really junk. We have not had any product made by Moeller, especially their fuel tanks, last more than a few months. we purchased tanks with the Nissan...

Finding open Wifi access points is not as easy as it use to be, but they are still out there. We have done detailed postings of our wifi progression and you can find them on our blog here, The...

Re: Icw

We've done 20+ transits of the ICW most with a 6 foot draft, and looking through this thread, you probably have all the information you will need. The Dismal Swamp depths on our last trip were 8 feet...

Re: Deck Wash Down Pump won"t prime

Our washdown is teed into the head intake less than a foot from the thru-hull. But we don't have a anti-syphon in the line anywhere. If the tee is well below the waterline, that might resolve the...

Re: Deck Wash Down Pump won"t prime

Jim, If I understand your post correctly, there should not be an anti-syphon valve in your washdown system. Tee off the intake, run through a filter, straight to the pump and to the deck fitting....

Re: Awlgrip cleaner/wax

Wax will ruin the Awlgrip finish. There is no shortcuts. Use Awlwash or car wash soap that is safe for all paints. Use only AwlCare on the finish. That is unless you don't mind having the boat need...

Thanks Marty, I am just speaking from my own personal experience. Grew up on the Chesapeake Bay and started boating at age ten. That's 55 years ago. Sailed the Pacific coast from San Francisco to the...

Re: Cetol Marine Finish Woes

Our boat spends most of its life in south Florida and the Bahamas. We have found, over the years, that the base coat last a very short time without the gloss. It might not be a problem in northern...

Re: Anchoring without chain

Re: Anchoring without chain

No chain is a very bad idea and about the only thing you can count on is the anchor pulling loose. The more the better and it should be sized for the boat and the windlass if you have one. Cable is...

Re: Cetol Marine Finish Woes

We've been using Cetol for many years and we have lots and lots of teak. We mostly use foam brushes but also use the disposable type. The problem with the disposable type is the bristles falling out....

Re: Beaufort South Carolina no longer a free anchor

There will still be sufficient anchorage space on the Beaufort River, it will just be a bit longer dinghy ride. Having said that, Factory Creek has always been our preferred anchorage for decades. It...
