Re: Ontario Yachts Mark 19, any info?

He is just guessing it is ballasted; he doesn't know the weight even.

But okay, it is a daggerboard rather than a centerboard. Does that make a difference? Assuming the daggerboard is over 100...

Ontario Yachts Mark 19, any info?

Anyone ever heard of this boat? One is for sale locally at a reasonable price, but the owner doesn't know anything about it.

The only thing that comes up on Google is the NADA price guide which...

Re: Kirby Fox 18 - No Jib??

This is the boat you sailed?
FOX 18 (KIRBY) sailboat specifications and details on sailboatdata.com (http://sailboatdata.com/viewrecord.asp?class_id=5824)
It must have been a little jib.

If you...

Re: What is this line?

That brings up another question...
Right in the center of the boat there is an observation port in the floor. Below that is a chain attached the the bottom. All I can figure is that it is for...

Re: What is this line?

There are no deep ramps on the lake. Two marinas have cranes, but that is expensive and they can't get to me for few weeks yet.

Re: What is this line?

I haven't actually bought the boat. It appears to be exactly what I am looking for except... I have no way to move it the 75 miles from there to here, and any way I have found to get it in and out...

Re: What is this line?

Okay, so the backstay doesn't go directly to the stern, but goes to the backstay tension adjuster which goes to two points on either side. Got it.

Now I have never seen the boat rigged (and the...

What is this line?

I am looking at a sailboat, a Fox 18, and don't understand what a line is for.

At the stern of the boat is a light line that...

Re: What does a new sail for for?

I thought I tried that, but since it works now, I must be mistaken. Thanks.

Only problem is that the manufacturer gives it as 136sf and FX gives it as 110sf. But for the moment that is a detail.

Re: What does a new sail for for?

That didn't help. I put in Kirby, Fox, Kirby Fox, Kirby Fox 18, and anything else I could think of, plus my email address, but nothing was returned.

I also emailed them and asked them, but they...

Re: What does a new sail for for?

That is a great price, but I don't see how you get it. No matter what I put into the website, it comes up with nothing. What did you do to get it?

Re: What does a new sail for for?

I think I could put my finger through it, but it wouldn't be easy. (and I have a black belt)

What does a new sail for for?

Yeah, I know it is a vague question, but all I need is a vague answer.
It is for a Fox 18; a cat rig with a 138sf sail.

It is on a used boat I am looking at. The sail has no holes at the moment,...

Re: Is this sail good?

I just asked the owner if it had a sail cover, because it reminded me of a furling jib I used to have that didn't have a cover. She said it didn't. I suspect it has suffered sunlight damage. Does...

Is this sail good?

I just looked at an 18' Fox sailboat. It is a cat rig and about 30 years old.

I wish I could show you the sail, but sadly I can't.
There are no holes, but material feels like thin parchment. I...

Re: Kirby Fox 18 - No Jib??

I intend on keeping it moored. The marina a half mile from my house can't handle it because their ramp is inadequate. A marina on the other side of the lake can, but they are really expensive. ...

Re: Kirby Fox 18 - No Jib??

It was designed as a cat rig, so there is no jib halyard. Would you want to add a jib if it designed to sail without one?

Aloof: Yeah, it will sail as intended; but how does that compare to a...

I have found a Fox 18 for sale. It is like this:

but it is actually...

Re: How to keep my rudder from falling off?

Sure, I will do that in the next couple days.
Seems like none of them have been sailed in the last 40 years; though I am quite satisfied with mine.

Re: What does a centerboard do?

Okay, so the centerboard is useful for best sailing, but it isn't the vital component I always thought it was, is that about right?

Other boats I have had were pretty flat on the bottom, while the...

I have a 50 year old 12' aluminum sailboat. It had enough flotation to keep it from sinking, but not by much. I stuffed a couple old life vests under the seats and it rides much higher now. I was...

Re: How to keep my rudder from falling off?

I ordered a Rudder Retaining Clip from Duckwork. That is a great place! I ordered a bunch of little things from them.

In the meanwhile I will try tying it down.
Thanks all for the help.

The bent piece of metal you referred to would be similar to the top item at duckworksbbs?

How to keep my rudder from falling off?

I just bought a 50 year old Petrel; a 12' aluminum sailboat. I can't find anyone who has used it in the last 25 years for info on how to use it.

I noticed that there was nothing to secure the...
