Re: Alternate and/or Emergency Ladders - Who's Using What?

We have had an emergency rope ladder, one with the plastic rungs, so they were at least firm. It was nearly impossible to climb up in a flat calm anchorage, tied at the shrouds. Tied anywhere else...

Re: Another AMVER rescue

Just to clarify, Art Munneke had sailed from the west coast of the Americas through the South Pacific to NZ and had just started the trip to bring his boat back to BC. Not a circumnavigation of the...

Re: Preventer line...

If you go to the previously linked site, in part 2 on preventers John describes how he chose to size his line. It is based on breaking strength not size of line and will depend on the size of your...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

I believe the c-head would spill its dry contents in a rollover, but unlikely in a knockdown. I don't think it would be hard to add some sort of latch to help prevent that if you were anticipating...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

Multihull girl,

The containers are not fastened inside the C-head. They are an exact fit so do not move around.

And it has been my experience that a properly maintained "separating waterless...

Re: Nature's Head or Airhead

I am with Amelia,
another happy C-head user! My husband and I have been using one full time for about a year now.
The positives for me compared to NH and AH are:

Ease of emptying, literally...

Re: 3G Radar V/S AIS, or get both...

We have the 3G radar, it is a great navigation tool, and if I had to choose between radar and AIS, I would choose radar every time. Information on your position in relation to objects around you is...

Re: composting toilet-should we do it

We installed a C-head brand dessicating toilet on our boat nearly one year ago. Our boat had overboard disharge only and we wished to become compliant with the laws, be more neighbourly when at...

Re: Grease on Propeller for Anti Fouling?

Just thought I would add an update.

It is now 8 months since we applied a lanolin coating to our propeller.
The propeller now has three small barnacles on it but almost no vegetation.
The...

Re: Composting Toilets vs. Holding Tank

To the OP,
Before you start considering the pros and cons of holding tanks vs waterless (I can't call them composting) toilets, you really need to look at the space you have available.
Waterless...

Re: End boat condensation once and for all

I think your best solution might be one or two solar powered vents.

We installed one on a 31 footer and although we are not liveaboard there is no longer any dripping fibreglass in the mornings...

Re: Anchor Snubbers Redux

So I take you prefer the simple chain hook? You have lots more experience than me so I am interested to hear your opinion on the pros and cons.

Re: Anchor Snubbers Redux

I too have been using the rolling hitch to attach my snubber to the chain. So far I much prefer this method to the chain hook we had previously. With its associated shackle and thimble clanking...

After a little more reading it appears fog was not an issue at all in the area.....
And yes the ferries go fast, but I don't think they go way to fast....as a frequent user of BC Ferries, I...

Re: A philosophical divide?

I think we can also make a choice, to enjoy, or not, the necessary maintenance.
Changing the oil or coolant in your engine is not really a "fun thing to do", however it is preferable to have a well...

Re: Barkley Sound, West Coast Vancouver Island

We just did that trip at the end of June. 31 foot full keeled sailboat.
We really had to consider the currents in the straight as we only motor around 5 knots and they can easily run 2-3 knots in...
