Re: My Poor Keel

I spoke to Catalina customer service and this is exactly what they told me to do. Thanks!

Re: My Poor Keel

The boat is an 86 and definitely has a lead keel. I'm not worried about the bottom ding. Looks purely cosmetic and I'll patch it in the Spring.

So I've pulled the boat apart a couple times since...

Re: My Poor Keel

Is there a good resource where I can read, in detail, how boats are put together? If I'm going to start hammering a chisel into my favorite thing in the world I want to know way more about how she's...

Re: My Poor Keel

Thanks guys! It's a Cat 25.

So the damage was done a couple of months ago so no rust. I also did a thorough survey of the inside of the boat afterwards and didn't find any damage. How would I...

My Poor Keel

So after our bonehead move hitting a rock (Seen here (http://www.sailnet.com/forums/general-discussion-sailing-related/103442-hit-rock-today.html)) we pulled the boat for the winter and got to assess...

Re: Winter Storage Recommendations?

Awesome. Thanks guys. I'm going to hit them up for a quote. Also need to figure out how long it would take to get up there from Brooklyn :) I have a couple weekends of work to do for next season.

Re: Going to have some winterizing questions.

Does everyone shrink wrap their boats? I bought my boat in April and everything was off already. Should I take my genoa off the furler as well?

Re: Winter Storage Recommendations?

I'm not sure if it's a faux pas to bump such an old thread, but it's relevant.

I'm looking for Winter storage and hit up a couple places on City Island (. The quotes are all around $1300. Does...

Re: Offshore bluewater cruising - what sailboat would be best?

These all seem really tiny for bluewater boats. You should pick up a copy of 'The Voyagers Handbook'. It has some really good info about the types of boats that do crossings and the hardware...

Re: My Rough plan to get better at sailing.

I did the same thing to learn when I was in College. I had unlimited use of Harbour 20s and J24s. I will say though, now owning my own boat I have learned 100000x more about maintenance. So many...

Yeah I work in app/web design. Always a steady stream of available freelance and contract work. I'm actually a Canadian citizen so setting up in NZ/Australia as well as most EU countries for a couple...

Re: The economics of sailing around the world

This thread is great. My man and I started the budgeting process for a multi-year trip about 6 months ago. Right now our goal for the end of next year is 70k in the bank. At that point we'll start...

Re: Hit a rock today

I tried to use my underwater camera but the visibility was too low. I got some awesome shots of how nasty the boat bottom is though :/ Ater I pulled up every single hatch and floor board and couldn't...

Re: Water in the bilge

Yeah two of my windows need to be resealed and leak a little bit every time it rains hard or I wash the boat down. I'm waiting for it to get high enough to use the bildge pump.

Re: Hit a rock today

I'm not sure exactly where we were as I turn off the tracker when we're motoring but I'm thinking we hit the area right to the west of 2 and 4. The tide was going out but it was extra high today so I...

Re: Hit a rock today

Yeah I'll definitely dive down and check it out. The weather is supposed to be pretty violent tomorrow though. If there was no leaks anywhere it should be okay to leave for a couple days? 20 kt...

Re: Hit a rock today

Yeah if you pull up the chart it was in the cable area right beside the 2 red buoys. The depth gauge was reading 12 the whole time so who knows. I'll be going to the other side of the lighthouse from...

Re: Hit a rock today

If the weather cooperates tomorrow ill head further into the sound and borrow a mooring to go down and check. I really don't want to do it at our marina. There are condoms and a lot of crabs (both...

Re: Hit a rock today

We didn't hit THAT hard. Our outboard isnt that fast and as soon as we hit we gunned it in reverse. Nothing in the cabin moved actually. Bruised knee and a small cut on the hand was the only damage....

Hit a rock today

We were motoring home from our regular sailing area in the Long Island Sound through an area with some shallow parts. We do this weekly and have never had an issue but today I guess our luck ran out!...

Re: Is it time to boycott the Bahamas?

What are the average cruising fees in the Carib? $300 still seems like a lot of money if you're doing multiple islands.
