I'm sure you saw Practical Sailor's review, FWIW. Just in case you did not:

I am pretty sure mine was made by Charleston Spars. I haven't asked the sailmaker what he measured the dimensions to be; all I know is that the dealer had to eat the cost of the slightly larger sail.

Inner forestay diameter

Just FYI, I am having a staysail made, and the sailmaker wanted the size of the inner stay, so he could choose the correct hank size.

The data provided suggest that the inner stay is 7/16, but it...

Ip 350

I did a one week charter on an Island Packet 350 (down in Punta Gorda FLA).

It is a sweet boat. Down below there is a lot of room, and a wonderful layout.

It takes A LOT of wind to get it...

from yanmarhelp.com

For prolonged running, a pleasure boat engine a good operating speed is around 85% of maximum continuous rated RPM (see the engine data plate)
assuming the propeller size is correct and the engine...

Thanks to all

Maine Sail: I read what you posted on the Yanmar site, which is why I was asking for real world advice on this site. (by the way, my previous boat was an Ericson, and I was a frequent reader of...

Winslow

I talked to Charles Daneko at the Annapolis boat show this week. He was manning the Winslow booth. He was VERY anxious to help with this type of problem and he emphasized (as others have stated)...

Yanmar 3YM30 in a PS 31 cruising RPM

I am reading and hearing different recommended cruising RPM on my Yanmar 3YM 30.

Maximum RPM from Yanmar is "3200-3600".

The dealer told me that my max RPM is 3200 (I guess for the specific...

inner forestay

My rigger shortened the inner forestay and added a Wichard "adjuster". I used the one with a pump handle rather than the roller, to save expense.

He also shorened the stay further and created a...

Life raft

Interesting posts.

I have been trying to figure out how the winslow, which is listed as 9 inches height, would fit in the port lazarette, if the lazarette is only 6 inches height.

Also, would...

I did in fact visit your website, and I greatly enjoyed the pictures. Can I ask what camera you are using, and whether you did any photoshop work on the images?

Crossing the stern lines on a PS31

The PS 31 seems to be disigned for the stern lines not to cross. The cleats are forward from the stern, with no fairleads, and the standoffs on the ladder are in the way as well.

My current slip,...

reefing

When I took my test sail on First Sight last summer, the rigger made a big point of raising the boom with the topping lift before snugging the reefing line, so I assume this is a major factor in...

ATN Tacker

I own an ATN Tacker from a previous boat, but I do not use it. I have read that the lateral forces on the forestay are potentially harmful. I can't be sure, and claim no authority (authoritay?),...

Don't remove the nut

I read this advice elsewhere on the web in a "prop maintanance" article.

That is certainly my easiest option...I just thought it would be easier and less messy to take it home and do it. Had no idea it would require new tools.

The prop sits very close to the rudder (skeg hung) so I am not sure there is room for the gear puller. Nice suggestion though.

removing prop

This is a lot less complicated than the cutless bearing discussion.

I simply want to remove the prop from my 31--so I can take it home and paint it more easily.

However, when I removed the...

Thanks for the input

I appreciate everyone's thoughts.

The Petit product is not available at my local West Marine.

A small independant chandlery that caters to crabbers carries it, but the owner says Interlux...

Petit Zinc Coat Barnacle Barrier

Looks good, and not too costly. I will give it a try.

Do you need to prime first? Doesn't sound like it.

To what extent do you polish the prop before applying?

How many coats?

Come the...

Question Chesapeake Bay prop barnacles: how to prevent

This winter I plan to paint my prop to prevent barnacles.

It seems they (barnacles) are becoming more of a problem.

On my last boat, I used the Interlux system: several coats of primer,...

Windlass

On First Sight when we purchased the boat last summer, we went with the recommendation of the dealer: a Lewmar Pro-Series H1000 (horizontal).

The housing is 100% stainless steel (a plus) but it...

My hull 128 has a yanmar ygm30 which was subjected to a sea trial and certified by Mack Boring.

I was advised to cruise at 2/3 maximum rpm, both by the dealer and Mack Boring.

This puts me...

Ps 31

Regarding the PS31, to which you are "drawn"--I had the same experience at the Annapolis boat show about three years ago. My wife was not with me at the time, but this spring, when I was more...
