Re: Epirb battery

"how long are these units good for?"
You mean, like the fairly new ones I've seen hanging upside down on commercial boats, so they can float free, but with water in the strobe dome?

Or ones...

Re: Epirb battery

"I would hope at there prices they test the electronics as well. "
Heheh. Test them, perhaps by using the "test" switch like all the defective ones from ACR, where the test didn't actually power up...

Re: Waterproof Epoxy?

Plumber's epoxy (sold in plastic tubes like a big tootsie roll) under various brand names in all the hardware stores. Or PC-7 (lumberyards) or MarineTex. If you also want to make sure it will "stay...

Re: best repair for stripped thread in the boom

Probably the Riv-Nut, unless that section of the boom is thick enough to tap in a heli-coil or other insert.

Either way I think I'd bed it in a little 5200 or epoxy, rather than using tefgel or...

Re: Epirb battery

Gasket goo: well, the form-a-gasket stuff is more than goo, it is designed to cure thicker and stronger, not like the old black tar we painted on paper gaskets to seal them down. I don't think...

Re: Painting Deck & Topside using Spray Machine

Go to the Interlux or AwlGrip web sites, read the instructions firsthand. Especially for prep and wherever you got the crazy idea of removing gelcoat.

If you want a "like new" job you remove...

Re: SOBER SAILING *help*

Having known a few alcoholics and how clever they can be about getting booze...I wouldn't consider anything on a cruise ship. The ship is too big, the staff work for peanuts. "Hey, I'll give you...

Re: Epirb battery

smurph, when all else fails consider Form-A-Gasket. From Permatex. Comes in different flavors and colors. When it first came out (60's?) auto mechanics panned it, said it was crap. Then Permatex...

Re: Epirb battery

smurph-
Is it a gasket, or an o-ring? x-ring? square o-ring?

If it is a gasket, you can always make a new one from gasket stock. Or if you want to be super-technical, go online and have one...

Re: Epirb battery

"the tape has less resistance than the original wire "
That's a point you didn't make the first time around. That was the issue I was questioning.
As to heat, I'm referring to the heat that is...

Re: Epirb battery

While I change my own batteries, and, for that matter, the nuclear fuel rods in my own reactors, I would wonder about "Conductive adhesive copper tape". Presumably there is now a layer of adhesive in...

Re: It's getting hot in here.....fridge problems

Rocky,
The pros with similar and longer track records that have posted about sea water condensors here over the years, all curse them. Either because the price of proper monel coils has joined...

Re: It's getting hot in here.....fridge problems

"Since a sailing vessel has a lot of water (which is an excellent heat sink....) around it why not use it? "

But most of the boats that cruise, and require refrigeration, are nowhere near "water"....

Re: Cracked bow (pic), would you buy?

If the hull is solid, not cored, so there's been no core deterioration.
And if they yard will guarantee their repair, including repainting to blend in and match the hull so you don't have to repaint...

Re: This year's clamp ammeters?

Is Uni-T the same as Uni-Trend?

A fast look at Amazon showed only a few units and fewer reviews.

And for the UniTrend:
"9V battery: 1
AAA battery: 1 "

Most unusual design, huh? (G)

Re: Recreational Sailboat vs. Tugboat with Barge: Who Has the Right of Way? - See mor

"There is no such thing as the rule of gross tonnage."
And you won't find the Law of Gravity in the CFR or the USC.
Nonetheless, when you drop buttered toast it does FALL and it usually lands...

Re: Recreational Sailboat vs. Tugboat with Barge: Who Has the Right of Way? - See mor

Or has this been mistranslated from some creative internet myth...

Or take them to any battery distributor and let...
