Re: Reviews for Southcoast Sailing, Galveston Bay?

Sorry, I didn't see this thread before...

I did ASA-101 with Southcoast Sailing a few years ago and really enjoyed it. The guy who instructed me and two others isn't there any longer. Two years...

Re: Smallest sailboat to use in blue water safely

When I think of the smallest boat to be used safely in "blue water", I think it's whatever the smallest you're comfortable with. My boat, a Nor'sea 27, is quite capable of traveling anywhere I may...

Re: Low buck projects- Let's see 'em!

Attached is my version I did a couple days ago. HVAC does work right now and the temps inside the house got up to 89. When I did this, it lowered the temp about 5 degrees before it went back up but...

The main reason was due to the curve of the deck. The vent would not have been installed flush against the deck. I also expected the way it was installed would help it better to stay sealed from...

Re: Before and After Photos - Show Us!

I didn't have anything for ventilation on my boat so as part of installing an Airhead toilet, I added a vent to my boat. It's lower profile and I think it suits my boat pretty well. ;)

Re: Cruising Permit

Looking at Killarney's post, I'm wondering...

Is it possible to register the boat in Canada without it being IN Canada?

What I'm thinking is, Delist from the US Coast Guard if it's documented,...

Re: Why Are Aluminum Mast Painted?

Thanks, I'll look into it. I was thinking to repaint to a bright Yellow. Figured it would be a good way to stand out at an achorage. :D

I think I need to have my spreaders taken care of. The ends...

Re: Why Are Aluminum Mast Painted?

I have seen some boats that have bare poles. I believe many are painted to give them a clean finished look for those new boats. I actually plan on repainting mine someday.

Re: Anyone tow or hire a truck?

NOB, Know of any buddies with a bigger truck? To me, it sounds like you might be able to tow with what you have but if you did that, you may have to take it easy and not rush it, just to ease your...

Re: I just bought a project boat - now what? Project Boat - Part I

Boats can require a lot of work. I've been working on mine as time and funds come along. I'd like to get a project boat but not having the time, space or funds to put one keep it from happening. I...

Re: I fell out of my Boat (not mob)

I just use an 8 foot folding ladder and tie off at the top onto a winch. The one fry posted looks to have a wider base for stability.

Re: Skipping CA tax ?

I was sent a Use tax bill for having a CA hailing port on my boat. Just had to send proof the boat was located outside of CA. Haven't heard anything since.

Re: Skipping CA tax ?

You not only need to be concerned about sales tax, but CA also has a Use tax. If keeping your boat in CA after the sale, you may be subject to both.

Re: The great things about owning a sailboat that no one tells you about

LOL.

I actually had my yard so bad that I received a letter from city ordinance to mow it down or get a hefty fine. Now, do just enough to get by. :D
