Re: Anyone in Boot Key?

Maybe for a year or two. We'll see. For now, it will be great to be closer to our son and my wife's sister.

The boat is due some work. Maybe even some upgrades.....maybe even an autopilot. ...

Re: Anyone in Boot Key?

Sadly, we missed Katie and Jesse. I'm happy to hear Scallywag is just about up and running again. Good job!

Re: How to run aground properly

I just got stuck pretty good in Boot Key late yesterday. Plenty of eyes upon us as we chose the shortcut to our mooring. Fortunately, a friendly cruiser came by and pushed us off with his dinghy. ...

Anyone in Boot Key?

We just returned from our second season in the Bahamas. After spending last hurricane season in Brunswick, Georgia, we did the Exumas, Eleuthera, and the Abacos. We returned to Ft. Pierce, and are...

Re: Big Freakin' Sails

Nice video, Steve. It's great to see you guys out there on the Gulf, getting some BFS experience.

The boys looked like they were having a blast most of the time. Hey, you might want to try the...

Re: And so ends another season...

Sweet!

The end of our season is Aug-Oct for hurricane season. It gives us a little break, and time for those boat projects that seem to pop up now and again. We are about to head south, along...

re: Why are there so many Hunter haters?

No worries, CalebD!

The last post for the OP was 07-07-2010. :laugher These Hunter threads go on and on............

Why not just lock threads more than one year old, with no activity?

re: Why are there so many Hunter haters?

We've been cruising our 1982 Hunter 36 for a year now. It was built during 1980-1982, designed by John Cherubini. Maybe one of the better, old school Hunters? Like smack's boat, much nicer lines...

Re: U.S.-Bahamas, Crossing the Stream

So, are you on your way yet? A boat came in here today. I met them on the sidewalk, and asked where they had come from. Charleston was the answer. They had some wind for awhile, but motored for...

Re: Circumnavigating the world with NO prior sailing experience ever before

Sure, go for it.

Just so you know, that doesn't always work out all that well. A friend of mine, with no sailing experience, decided that he wanted to sail around the world. He sold his home,...

Re: Has anyone actually had a ticket for having dinghy reg on a board?

You will see many dinghies with the boards in south Florida. No mention of problems that I have ever heard. Good question since I am about to make boards for mine since we seem to be missing some...

Re: U.S.-Bahamas, Crossing the Stream

Thanks for the info. We'll try to get an earlier start next year, and finally make it up that way.

Re: Circumnavigating the world with NO prior sailing experience ever before

Oh yes! Even our Australian friends, sailing production Beneteaus have circumnavigated. Hey Mark, your newest photos seem to make you look a bit heavier these days. Been eating too well, or is it...

Re: sideways on anchor?

My vote is a strong tide. Your experience is pretty common on the east coast of Florida and Georgia. Somewhat on the west coast too. This is just my experience, and I was pretty dumbfounded when...

Re: Circumnavigating the world with NO prior sailing experience ever before

Andreas owns the boat, but Martin doesn't mention Andreas' experience.

But hey, the Bumfuzzles have done a RTW. and Pat says it's no big deal. Next thing you know, smackdaddy will do the same...

Re: U.S.-Bahamas, Crossing the Stream

How was that part of the trip? We had planned to make it up to the Chesapeake, but gave up and stayed in Georgia for this hurricane season. It was July when we got here, and afternoon thunderstorms...

Re: U.S.-Bahamas, Crossing the Stream

Lake Worth is a good port of entry if returning from Bimini, btw. An easy walk to clear in at Homeland Security near Riviera Beach Marina.

We'll be leaving Brunswick, Ga. in a couple of weeks,...

Re: Miami to Bimini

Maybe? If you are anchored in Miami, are you going 30 miles to Angelfish, 50 miles to Rodriguez to jump to Bimini? Even farther to Marathon. I'll be sitting in Bimini drinking a Kalik when you get...

Re: Miami to Bimini

I'm on the same page here. We left No Name Harbor on May 1 this year. It took us 13 hours, from anchor up to tie up at Brown's. The RLC is 101* from Miami. For our boat, 5 knots for planning, the...

Re: Is it Dangerous to Sail Underpowered?

Regarding sails, do you have an autopilot? We don't, but my wife takes the helm so, I have an extra pair of hands. Single handing sure poses a lot of challenges. A furling headsail and /or an...

Re: Got to Stop being Stupid

Yeah, lots of talk about jibs in this thread. I wonder how a AMF PaceShip PY26 sails on just the main?
