Re: Gotta love this net!

I think it may be a mistake to use your email addy as your sign on... I wonder if the mods agree.
Still welcome to the insanity.

Re: Would you give up sailing?

You know the title of the thread, and question within, lead me to believe this was a newb asking a leading question to sell a product/idea.

When I see that its a senior member, with lots of...

Re: What sail material are racer/cruisers recommending these days?

I've done sails for a much smaller boat a Capri 25, headfoil 2, and went with epsails, using loadpath... I went from mid fleet, to number 2 for the year (same crew/same boat/same lousy driving, and...

Re: Where to find a sailboat trailer?

I've bought and sold 3 sailboat trailers now, but then again, my boat has a round bottom with the weighted daggerboard up.

That being said, if you don't limit your location, and are willing to...

Re: New purchase

$4000, and under 3500lbs total weight (boat and trailer) is gonna be tough, but here are some candidates in the 16-20ft range.

Precision 165 (total weight towed about 1900lbs)
Capri 18 (actually...

Re: Help A College Student! Help me understand some things about Sailing.

I have a 26 foot sailboat with a 2 stroke outboard, 7.5 hp, and I'm on an inland lake that is 13 miles sailable... I would be the "ideal" test candidate for you, and there are more of us on this site...

Re: Tiller to wheel conversion

I dunno one huge advantage of a tiller is a inexpensive tiller pilot... those autopilots for wheels are CRAZY expensive.
I too feel like it'd be nice to get a larger boat with a wheel (and the look...

Re: Is Adding A Cockpit Traveler A Good Idea?

Newest Harken small boat traveler kits use wide stem heads that slide into the a groove in the bottom of the track, so that you can place the bolts anywhere you can get attachment points (they are...

Re: Is Adding A Cockpit Traveler A Good Idea?

Given the location of your lazarettes, you basically have only 2 options, to have a traveler sticking out from the companionway threshhold about 12-18 inches (really awkward spot), or to throw it...

Defender for sure.
Jamestown, as an alternate
Minicraft of FL, for weird gelcoat matching (those guys are awesome!).
West Marine if you absolutely must.
Amazon (yep you heard me, sometimes you...

Re: Caveats for a Craigslist sailboat?

Saw a link to the craigslist ad, and it looks to be a clean little 22.
Being that its a 1993 is probably where the owner gets his pricing from.

I'd admit I couldn't find anything on the boat...

Re: New to SailNet and Sailing

Capri 14.2 was one of my old boats (lots in rental fleets too)... great little boat that has all the grown up toys. Warning, the Capri line grows on you.
I owned a Capri 14.2, Capri 22, and Capri...

Re: Force 5 sailboat good trainer?

Great starter boat. Be willing to swim. Force 5 is a lot of boat, but it should teach you quick quickly... Do yourself a favor though, if you do happen to go bigger down the road (likely), keep the...

Re: Is this autopilot behavior normal?

yep, the mounting location is all wrong too!

The TP is mounted to close to the rudder post. It is supposed to be 16-20" from the post (or pivot point if you have gudgeons, and stern mount)...

Re: tiller pilots: simrad or raymarine????

Thought I'd post a quick video I took yesterday while sailing showing the TP22 on a reach... winds were 10-18 knts.. yep we're an inland lake, and that rough water was JUST from powerboats, lovely...

Re: tiller pilots: simrad or raymarine????

I had no cover for the ST1000+ or the TP22... both were out in rain frequently.

Since I've taken both apart, I'd argue the TP22 is more "weatherproof."

I don't miss the readout on the ST1000+...

Sorry Christian, didn't notice the thread...

Keel guides are a must, or at least, if you can fashion something that'll steer the keel to the center of the trailer. PVC pipe works, we're talking...

Re: Halyard Tension vs Turning Block Size

I've had good luck with Garhauer genoa lead blocks, and low lead blocks. Also had a nice Garhauer mainsheet system on one of my boats.

I'd still say that Harken has earned their...

Re: Help a newbie out-1980 Catalina 22 for $2350

I realize you passed up on this Catalina 22... but yeah, that's an RV type electrical outlet (have one on my horse trailer). Not a good place to locate it (rollers would short it out likely). Not a...

Re: How much purchase for J/27 backstay?

Just put a spectra, cascaded backstay on my S2 7.9, which is a telephone pole compared to the J27... I did 4:1, cascaded 2:1, so 8:1... recommended by another S2 owner. It works, but it's coarse,...
