Re: binnacle compass repairs

Had a Danforth compass repaired (air bubble and crazed plastic) by Viking Compass about three years ago. They did an excellent job. Compass looked new when it was returned. Would use them again.

Re: cabin sole

Hush,

The fellow that used the belt sander on my cabin sole knew what he was doing. He's semi-retired but made a living for years as a woodworker and teak re-finisher. In the summers he worked...

Re: Which Cruising Guide to buy

I've always found the "Cruising Guide to the Chesapeake Bay" to be very useful, especially when looking for new anchorages. Also, I like the fact that it's spiral bound. It's not cheap however. ...

Re: New Hatch Lenses in Texas

I second the recommendation of Select Plastics. Last year I had them replace the lenses on my PSC 37 Bomar hatches, which leaked. Very nice job and easy to work with. The hatches now look new.

Re: How do I keep travelift slings from topsides

Regarding the pads I mentioned in my previous post, I'v never examined them closely, but they look like they are made of closed cell foam.

First I've heard of the 3M vinyl product. Interesting. ...

Re: How do I keep travelift slings from topsides

Ditto on Chesapeake marinas using pads. I've had my boat hauled out at three different marinas. While wasn't SOP, when I pointed out that the hull is awl gripped, all three used pads between the...

We raft up occasionally. But if there is any weather in the forecast, we break-up early. What I don't get are the rafts that wait until the weather hits before breaking up. Often everyone is half...

Re: Oxford, MD

Anchoring near the strand - there a lot of moorings there, but enough room in a few areas to drop a hook. It would be a short row to the sandy beach.

I've never noticed anyone around the ferry...
