Re: Sailing in Chicago

During the 2012 season my wife and I had a 'time share' through Pinnacle Yachts. Our boat was a Jeanneau 40.9 out of Belmont Harbor. The 'standard' share is 11 weekend and 16 weekday timeslots, where...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

I sail in the corn belt of Illinois where ethanol is 'grown' - there are no ethanol free gas sources within hours.

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

My thinking is that if there is small crud like that on the throttle plate then it is likely it has made its way to the jets; so, yes, they have to come out and be cleaned along with everything else.

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

Paul, when I pulled it off the bowl looked clean, as did the float.

Re: Look for new sailboat under 25 ft.

Sorry to hear that the Bene dealers aren't treating you well. I would think they would want to sell some sailboats! We sail a 1994 210, an ancestor of the 21s. It's a nice boat - easily to handle,...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

Well, following your advice - especially Capecodda - I pulled the carb on Sunday. Gee, I think I see a problem! (Follow the link to a picture, zoom in to the throttle plate, and you'll see a lot of...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

Paul, my Sailpro 6 HP doesn't have the integral tank. But I appreciate your intention - I'm thinking of having a secondary gas tank and hose.

Re: recommendation, Puget Sound sailing instructor, Puget Sound area

My wife did the ASA 101-103-104 series with Nate Harmon from Sail Northwest in Bellingham a couple years ago. I came along for the ride, having completed the ASA courses earlier. We were a week on a...

Re: Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

Thanks, all!

We went out to the lake last Saturday; the outboard started right up and ran fine under load in the slip. Headed out to sail for a couple hours, then dropped the sails and the motor...

Tohatsu 6HP Sailpro Stalling

We have a new this season Tohatsu extra-long shaft 6 HP on our Beneteau 210 Classic. It worked fine for the first several sails on 93 octane with up to 10% ethanol. I always run the motor dry by...

Re: Taking my ASA101 and 103 at once

Congratulations on a fine start in sailing!

I completed ASA 101 (J-24), 103 & 104 (Catalina 42) in a bunch over eight days at the Santa Barbara Sailing Center, learned a ton and had a blast. The...

Re: Downsizing & looking for some ideas

Along the lines of the Typhoon and the Ensign is the McVay Bluenose:

Prettier than either the Ensign or Typhoon, IMHO. But they...

Re: Advice For Good Boat To Learn On

Nancy, that Bene 285 is in a different league than the Ensign or J-22 - even more so than the 25' Hunters that Sal Paradise says involve more expenses, logistics and risks. Will you learn a lot if...

Re: Yet another first boat thread

Last summer, we bought a small, 'trailerable' Beneteau 210 thinking we would park it rigged in a marina lot, and move it to a different lake every season. Rigging the boat the first time and then...

Re: Increasing Outboard Prop Depth?

Alex, your picture is most helpful - it looks to me that the S/S channel is hardly and eyesore because it is largely hidden behind the motor and bracket. Hellosailor, I'm going to keep your ideas for...

Re: Increasing Outboard Prop Depth?

Hi Faster,

Moving the outboard motor bracket lower is another option; my reluctance to go that way is based on two considerations. First - and this may be what you are asking in your question...

Increasing Outboard Prop Depth?

So here's the question as we get ready for the 2014 sailing season (assuming that this lousy cold weather will break before too long!): How to increase the depth of our outboard propellor? We sail a...

Aww, Jeez, the Red Witch is on the Market

So, I'm browsing sailboatlistings.com and see this:

It's the Red Witch...

Re: Morgan 33T

The 33T draws 5 - 1/2 feet (according to Sailboatdata.com). Before buying, I'd get my hands on NOAA charts for the Keys - especially the Bay side - and see where I could and couldn't sail with that...

Re: seeking 50% partnership on new 35' sailboat in Annapolis, MD

I'm with svHyLyte - and would recommend Pinnacle Yachts. They offer a 'lease share' rather than fractional ownership. We had a 40' Jeanneau with them in Chicago in 2011. Excellent setup - great...

Muscling the Motor onto the Outboard Bracket

The Lehr 5 HP propane outboard that I bought back in June comes out of the shop this weekend. (Its reliability is another thread entirely.) I'm looking for your thoughts about the ways I might get it...

Re: Trailer sailer

Sailing across the Strait of Georgia in a trailerable sailboat? I'm going to second the recommendation of gts1544 that "you're going to need a bigger boat!" My recommendation is based not just on...
