Have a good and safe trip. We'll be heading for Penobscot in about a month or so.

Re: Internet connection

I looked at the Wirie website and it seems that it only works with carriers in the US that use a particular format (GSM) - the main two are AT&T and T-Mobile (and a number of semi-independent smaller...

Re: Internet connection

Thanks - I was thinking of some cell option - anything to do with satellites would be too expensive. I suppose I can use a cell phone to create a local hotspot. I've also heard about mifi - would...

Internet connection

I'm sure this questions has been answered before, but technology changes all the time, so here goes.

We're planning on spending a couple of weeks cruising in Maine this summer. I can take the...

Re: PacificSeacraftOwners.org

Thanks Bob, I just got the notification by email. Let's hope the board will be more active in the future. Didn't realize you were in Salem also.

Re: BBB or type 54 - what's the difference?

I want to reiterate PorFin's point - if that welding shop uses stainless with too much carbon in it, the stainless will get sensitized in the heat affected zone and start corroding along the grain...

Re: Worst Event During a Sail

Losing the rig in a little over twenty knots of wind while sailing close hauled. Note to self - check head stay before taking out a chartered boat.

Re: One day in Vancouver what to do?

The UBC anthropology museum (not too far from that nude beach) is worth a visit, if you're interested in that sort of thing.

Re: Maine bound & back

No, never been there. I was under the impression that it is possible to anchor near Smuttynose Island, or are moorings the only option? I suppose Kittery Point would be a good backup if no moorings...

Re: Maine bound & back

Thanks, guys. I went through the Annisquam a few years ago in a smaller boat and very much enjoyed it. My concern this time around is losing too much time trying to time the passage through the...

Re: Maine bound & back

I'm thinking of doing the same trip this summer - we're also moored in Salem. I was wondering what you wound up doing? Going through Annisquam or around Cape Anne? What are some good stops before you...

Re: Boston Area Recommendations?

I've got a long list of things to do - it runs to about two pages or so. At least I was able to repair some of the canvas over the winter - gave me something nautical to do.

NE riggers does a lot...

Re: Boston Area Recommendations?

I used North East Rigging to replace the standing rigging last year - they were very responsive and the price was reasonable. I think they're located in Concord.

Re: water based bottom paint

Thanks HR - I'm moored in Salem also. If it works for you, it should work for me too.

Omatako, you're right, it probably doesn't make that much of a difference in clean up, but I'd still prefer...

water based bottom paint

If the snow ever melts here in the northeast, I can finally get started on getting the boat ready. I've been using Interlux ACT as bottom paint for years and am wondering if I shouldn't switch to a...

Re: Greece: Dodecanese vs Ionian islands

Please let us know how it goes - sailing and your experience with the charter company - it's an area I'd like to explore in the near future.

Re: Greece: Dodecanese vs Ionian islands

We chartered from Kos in early July last summer - we had three boats for three families. The winds were quite strong, but the sailing was fun and spirited. Most of the time, winds were in the 18-30...

Re: What is the most idiotic mistake you have made on a boat?

When we still had our Precision 23, we trailered her up to Boothbay Harbor in Maine. Quickly rigged the mast. Everything went smoothly and I congratulated myself on a job well done, until we tried to...

I'm happy the insurance decided to cover the full amount - they seem to be a decent company to do business with. Excellent news for MedSailor.

Re: Raw water anti-syphon valve

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the detailed description - that's very helpful. In my case, that panel has the engine instruments. I was hoping to avoid taking it out as it is caulked in place, but it looks...

Re: Raw water anti-syphon valve

Bill,

Thanks for the update and sorry the plan didn't work out. Did you find an easy way to get to the valve?

Thanks,
Joost
