Re: Looking for 36-40', plus sized cockpit

Pearson 35 has 9 foot cockpit and was designed for exactly what you're looking for, and they made over 500 of them. They are relatively easy to find although often in states ranging from full...

Re: solar recommendations

Any experience with Aurinco? They look pretty tough and are now all made in Anacortes.

Re: Will Solar Panel Trickle Charge Battery?

Check out aurinco.com. They have a decent breakdown of what you'd need based on what you want to run in their "education" section.

Help protect wood

Wind- white oak tolerates marine conditions well, but would probably still do varnish. Some people recommend west epoxy with special clear hardner, which will theoretically stop seasonal movement if...

Help protect wood

Varnish or Cetol. I personally like varnish better, but they both work. For my interior teak loops I used circa 1850 tung and teak oil once two seasons ago and they look exactly like the day I put...

Re: Indoor vs outdoor storage

Actually, the lake effect can be heavier! But similar climates. I like the summers better here.

Has anyone actually had a ticket for having dinghy reg on a board?

As long as you're not drunk, I don't think anyone is going to hassle you. Most of the guys here just look to see if your excise tax sticker is valid.

What liquor and wine do you stock on Board

Strictly a beer and wine guy. Always bottles, although I know plenty of people who say you should only have cans on board for safety.

Re: Mast storage

A few years ago I built a wood frame, and stored the mast on the boat. Used it for the spine of the frame for the winter cover.[/QUOTE]

That's what I do. Just be sure to have vents in your...

Universal m4-30 engine will not accelerate in reverse, OK in forward Hurth selected

Update- transmission shot. Have no idea why it didn't overheat. Will let you know when it's all back together if that finally fixed it.

Had the boat two days, two problems already...

Swing keel, trailer sailer- it's supposed to be towed. Easily fixed stuff. Generally Catalina 22 easy boat to sail and work on. Assuming you checked her out before you bought?

Indoor vs outdoor storage

Grew up in Rochester. The extra money is worth it for indoor storage. Of not adequately heated, will still need to winterize.

Small affordable sailboats with ample storage? (planning to live aboard)

There's a Pearson 10m near you on eBay for wicked cheap. Not trailerable , but would give you much more room for severe bargain price.

Galley Oven

Second the insurance issue. If you're unlucky enough to blow you(and the boats around you) up but survive, I doubt your insurance will cover you (or the Hinkley you damaged ).

How small is too small?

Good call. Nonesuch is easy to singlehand. Look at the list of pocket cruisers and small blue water boats that have been published and are all over this site, and fair winds.

How small is too small?

Having grown up on a Catalina 22 and now on a p-35, I'd say for that crossing, I personally wouldn't go smaller than something like a cape dory 27.

Time for a new dinghy - roll up vs. air vs. rigid floor

Got rid of my roll up wood floor achillies and went with a rib. Far better.
