Re: 2016 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

The new MD stickers are also extremely ugly. Gone are the stylized drawings of the state house, etc. - now replaced with the expiration date in big block lettering.

Re: Search continues for missing boater

My experience has been that the current can really rip (at least by Chesapeake Bay standards) under the main spans of the Bay Bridge north to the mouth of the Magothy, particularly in the area west...

Re: Baltimore/Havre De Grace/ DIY Marina. Travel from Hershey

It's prudent to do this kind of research pre-purchase. Docking, land storage, and haulout fees will easily exceed the $50k value of the OP's proposed 35 foot boat within 10-15 years of ownership....

Re: Baltimore/Havre De Grace/ DIY Marina. Travel from Hershey

I've done an exhaustive search of marinas from the Magothy up to Middle River and don't have much to add to what's already been said in this thread. Maryland Yacht Club and Bowley's Marina are my top...

Re: Looking for a new slip for Fall

We looked at and called around to a number of places before deciding to put the boat on the market. As much as we would have liked to stay in the outer Patapsco or the Magothy, Bowleys Marina was...

Re: Annapolis Yacht Club burns

In the immediate the saddest part is that they have staff out of work less than two weeks before Christmas. There is talk of temporary relocation but I imagine even that will take time and any...

Re: Lippincott Question

True, although the persistent appeal of the C30 at this point probably is mostly based upon its ubiquity and its very reasonable price on the used market than that its hull design is in particular...

Re: Lippincott Question

There was definitely one in Rock Hall, MD as of May, 2014 as I laid eyes on it myself and talked about it with Tom Lippincott of Salt Yacht Brokerage when selling my L30. He informed me that it is...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Believe me, if the boat hasn't sold by March 31 she's going back in the water and we're sailing her in 2016 until we get a contract!

Gorilla tape - a nice 3" wide roll? Zipwall adhesive zippers? Haven't tried either but just throwing out some ideas...

Re: 2015 Sailing Season on the Chesapeake

Our 2015 season is officially over. Boat was hauled for the winter yesterday and is up for sale.

A bittersweet season for sure, although on balance more sweet than bitter. It was our first season...

Re: collapsible shopping cart?

If I were in the market for a folding cart I'd purchase a Tipke Foldit. A technician I had working on my boat last year had one and I was impressed. Maybe not the smallest footprint compared to the...

Re: Fix, Junk, or Give Away?

This thread had bucked me up to try to fix the thing over the winter! As capecodda said, I really have nothing to lose.

Also, the alternatives don't look too appealing. I see nothing but...

Fix, Junk, or Give Away?

I have a 1990 3 HP 2-stroke Johnson dinghy outboard that barely starts and won't stay running for more than about 15 seconds. I suspect rebuilding or replacing the carb would help matters a lot, but...

Re: An interesting topic

I'm currently looking to downsize and have my boat listed for many thousands more than I want to pay for the next boat. So there's no way I'd be willing to trade it unless the buyer were willing to...

Re: 1986 O'day 35 Review

The Cal 33-2 is certainly a strong contender also but they seem to be rarer here in the Chesapeake/Mid-Atlantic region than the O'day 34/5 and Catalina 34. That said, not in any rush so willing to...

Re: 1986 O'day 35 Review

Thanks for the great info! We're in the market to downsize to something in the low to mid 30's and the O'day 35 is on the short list for sure. Haven't gotten on one yet but from what I've seen and...

Re: Downsizing/Rightsizing

We hope as our daughter grows up to be able to maintain a balance that allows us to sail and participate in marina/yacht club life while still pursuing her own interests outside of sailing. I don't...

Re: Downsizing/Rightsizing

We bought the Beneteau with the intention to go on a 1+ year sabbatical cruise south. We would have left last month if that plan had come to fruition. Happily, we had a baby along the way to that...

Re: Downsizing/Rightsizing

Looks like a good find! We're not going to buy anything until our current boat is gone - so I'd either have to hope for a quick sale for ours or hope that one stays on the market a while.

I don't...

Downsizing/Rightsizing

We have put our Beneteau 400 on the market. We bought her with the intention to go long term cruising and now that we've deferred that dream to at least 5 years out, we're finding the 40 footer is...

Stripping the Wax and Leaving it Off!?

Waxing the hull has always been one of my least favorite boat projects and the results never seem to last more than 3-4 months regardless of what products or techniques I use. The wax always...
